Meet the Bell R7 Sport: The GP3 Successor Arrives for 2026

The Bell R7 Sport has officially landed, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting helmet launches we’ve seen in years. Built to replace the ever-popular GP3, this new model is Bell’s answer to modern driver needs for 2026 and beyond. If you’ve been using the GP3, or were planning to pick one up, the R7 is its direct replacement, featuring updated styling, improved functionality, and the latest FIA 8859-2024 homologation.

The GP3 was a helmet we proudly stocked and recommended to drivers at all levels—track days, time attack, club racing, and more. The R7 carries forward that same spirit but brings a sharper design, a revised visor mechanism, and improved aero features to the table. This isn’t a radical departure, but rather a thoughtful evolution.

Best of all, the R7 is now live on our website and will be arriving in our showroom very soon. That means you’ll be able to try it in person and get sized up by our team just like you could with the GP3. We’ll be stocking the black and white colour options across a full range of sizes to make it as easy as possible to find the perfect fit.

If you’ve been waiting for the next great Bell helmet to drop, this is it. Whether you’re upgrading your current lid or stepping into motorsport for the first time, the R7 delivers trusted quality, up-to-date compliance, and track-proven features at a competitive price.

Why Upgrade to a Carbon Fibre Helmet?

When it comes to motorsport safety gear, Bell has built a reputation that few brands can match. With decades of racing heritage and a presence in everything from grassroots club events to top-tier international series, Bell helmets are trusted by drivers who demand the very best.

What makes Bell stand out isn’t just their history—it’s their ongoing commitment to innovation, safety, and driver comfort. Every helmet in their lineup, including the new R7 Sport, reflects Bell’s focus on high-performance design and robust construction. Whether you’re heading to a weekend sprint event or a full-day track session, you need a helmet that’s up to the job without distractions. Bell delivers that confidence.

Here’s why so many of our customers choose Bell:

  • Advanced Safety Standards: Bell’s helmets meet and often exceed the latest FIA and Snell approvals. The new R7 Sport is FIA 8859-2024 approved, keeping you compliant for the future.
  • Fit and Finish: Bell helmets are known for consistent sizing and high-quality interior materials. They feel stable on the head, and the padding provides a snug, performance-ready fit that breaks in nicely over time.
  • Aerodynamic Design: Many Bell helmets, including the R7 and XR7, feature wind-tunnel tested shapes that reduce lift and drag at speed, giving you better stability in the car.
  • Versatility: With a wide range of models and sizes, Bell caters to casual drivers and serious competitors alike. Whether you’re chasing seconds or just enjoying clean laps, there’s a Bell helmet that fits your driving style and budget.
  • Trusted Globally: Bell is a household name in racing, worn by champions and weekend warriors alike. Their gear is tested in real-world motorsport environments by professionals, so you know it’s up to standard.

Choosing a Bell helmet means investing in proven performance and peace of mind. It’s one of the most important pieces of gear you’ll buy, and Bell makes sure it earns your trust every time you drive.

The New Bell R7: What’s Changed?

The Bell R7 is the exciting 2026 replacement for the much-loved GP3 Sport helmet, and it brings a host of updates while keeping everything that drivers appreciated about its predecessor. Designed with the modern motorsport driver in mind, the R7 carries over the dependable performance of the GP3 and adds refinements that make it even better suited for today’s track environments.

At first glance, the most noticeable difference is the updated outer shell design. The Bell R7 has a sharper, more aggressive aerodynamic profile that helps reduce lift and buffeting at higher speeds. This makes it ideal for open-cockpit use, where air pressure can play a huge role in helmet stability. Whether you’re behind the wheel of a single-seater or a track-prepped road car, you’ll feel the improvement in overall helmet stability at speed.

Another standout feature is the revised visor mechanism. The new system is smoother, more precise, and allows for easier adjustment even while wearing gloves. It also seals better, reducing wind noise and helping with ventilation control—especially useful during long stints or hot race days.

Importantly, the Bell R7 is fully FIA 8859-2024 approved. That means it meets the most up-to-date safety standards for non-F1 motorsport use and ensures you’re covered for the future of racing. This approval is essential for many competitive motorsport events, from club-level racing to international championships.

Here’s a quick summary of the key updates with the Bell R7:

  • New outer shell shape with improved aerodynamics
  • Updated visor mechanism with smoother operation and better sealing
  • Enhanced ventilation system for improved airflow and heat management
  • FIA 8859-2024 approval for compliance with modern motorsport safety requirements
  • Available in black or white with a clean, timeless look
  • Sizes from XS to XL for a wide fitment range

Whether you’re upgrading from an older helmet or looking for your first FIA-approved model, the Bell R7 represents a smart choice. It delivers premium features and performance at a competitive price and is backed by Bell’s long-standing reputation for motorsport safety.

Want Carbon? Meet the Bell XR7 Ultra Carbon

For drivers who want to take things to the next level, Bell has also released a premium version of the new helmet: the XR7 Ultra Carbon. It’s built from ultra-lightweight carbon fibre and trimmed with the same comfort-focused interior design, but it’s lighter, sleeker, and built for serious performance.

It’s aimed at track day regulars, competitive racers, and anyone who values weight saving and comfort over longer sessions.

The Bell XR7 Ultra Carbon helmet is engineered for drivers who demand lightweight strength, aerodynamic stability, and excellent ventilation in open-cockpit racing. Developed as the successor to Bell’s popular GP3 model, the XR7 Ultra Carbon features a newly sculpted carbon composite shell that keeps weight to a minimum without compromising structural integrity. This ultra-light shell helps reduce driver fatigue and gives a very stable feel at speed. A moulded duckbill chin spoiler is integrated into the shell; this swept aerodynamic lip reduces aerodynamic lift and buffeting, keeping your head steadier in high-speed airflow.

The helmet’s ventilation system is versatile and driver-adjustable: it combines lower chin bar air intakes with adjustable upper vents on the crown, allowing you to regulate airflow and stay cool during hot laps. Inside, Bell uses a multi-density, multi-piece liner that manages impacts effectively while providing a comfortable, secure fit around your head.

Key Features of the Bell XR7 Ultra Carbon:

  • Ultra-light Carbon Shell: Premium carbon fibre composite construction for maximum strength-to-weight benefit, reducing neck strain over long sessions.
  • Aerodynamic Chin Spoiler: Integrated duckbill spoiler minimizes helmet lift and buffeting in open cockpit airflow, helping you maintain a steady head position.
  • Advanced Ventilation: Combination of chin bar vents and adjustable top vents to channel cooling air through the helmet, with a DSAF visor to prevent fogging in damp conditions.
  • Race-Ready Hardware: Equipped with SmartLock visor latch for secure closure, built-in channels for hydration tubes and comms, plus pre-fitted HANS anchors so it’s ready for your racing harness device.
  • Custom Fit Options: Standard fire-resistant grey interior lining (friction-grip fabric for stability) with optional lining colors available (white, red, blue, green, yellow, pink, orange, purple, etc.) as a special-order personalization.

Proper Helmet Fitment: Getting the Right Fit

Even the safest helmet won’t protect you properly if it doesn’t fit right. It should feel snug around your head and cheeks without any sharp pressure points. The padding needs to make firm contact all the way around, crown, sides, and cheeks. New helmets often feel tight at first, but they’ll settle in slightly with use.

Your cheeks should feel pressed in slightly (think chipmunk-style), but it shouldn’t hurt or stop you from speaking. There shouldn’t be any gaps at your temples either. If you move the helmet side to side or back and forth, your skin should move with it. If the helmet shifts on its own, it’s too loose.

Always fasten the chin strap properly and check that the helmet stays firmly in place. If you can roll it off your head, it’s too big. Watch out for pressure hotspots too, discomfort around the forehead or ears could mean the shape isn’t right for you.

At GSM Performance, we recommend coming in to try helmets on in person. We’ll help with sizing, cheek pad swaps, and make sure you leave with a helmet that’s safe and comfortable on track.

Our In-Store Bell Helmet Display

At GSM Performance, we currently stock and display the Bell GT6 Sport in all sizes, and we still have a limited number of GP3 helmets available while stock lasts. The new R7 Sport will be arriving in-store soon and will be displayed in both black and white across a range of sizes for customers to try on in person.

Please note: the XR7 carbon helmet is not a stocked item. Due to its made-to-order nature, this model is only available online and will be shipped directly once ordered.

R7 or XR7? Choosing the Right Helmet

If you want the latest Bell helmet with the newest safety approval and solid value, the standard R7 is the right choice. It keeps weight and cost balanced while offering updated aerodynamics and all the core features you need for track and race use.

If you want the lightest possible setup for long stints or competitive driving, the XR7’s carbon shell gives you that edge. It’s the premium option designed with advanced comfort and performance in mind.

Final Thoughts: The R7 Marks a New Era for Bell’s Track-Day and Motorsport Lineup

The launch of the Bell R7 Sport helmet signals a confident step forward in Bell’s 2026 helmet lineup. Building on the proven foundation of the GP3, the R7 modernises everything from airflow to visor function while staying focused on what matters most to drivers: safety, comfort, and performance.

It’s clear Bell aimed to give drivers a helmet that not only meets the latest FIA standards but feels more stable and refined behind the wheel. With the addition of the ultra-light XR7 Carbon version for those wanting to shed every gram, Bell now covers the full range of driver needs—from club-level racing to serious national championships.

At GSM Performance, we’re excited to welcome the R7 into our showroom lineup and to help drivers make the switch with confidence. If you’re upgrading an older helmet or buying new for the 2026 season, the Bell R7 offers the fit, finish, and safety credentials you can trust.

We’ll be displaying the R7 Sport in-store very soon and we’re always happy to assist with sizing, fitment tips, or helping you explore Bell’s full range. Whether you’re stepping into your first track day or prepping for a full race season, the Bell R7 is a helmet that delivers.
