Motorsport safety equipment, since 2003
GSM Performance is a family run motorsport retailer in Nottinghamshire. Garreth started it in 2003 building and modifying cars, and it turned into a business selling the equipment that keeps drivers safe. Behind the website there is a 2,500 square foot showroom, which is where the seats, helmets and suits are kept and where you can come and try them.
Nottinghamshire, trading since 2003, with a 2,500 square foot showroom open by appointment Monday to Friday. Helmets, racewear, HANS devices, steering wheels and BC Racing suspension on this site, seats and harnesses on sportseats4u.co.uk, brakes on bigbrakes4u.co.uk. Free UK and European delivery over £100.
Who we are
We sell driver safety equipment. Helmets, racing suits, boots, gloves, HANS devices, steering wheels and the rest of what goes in a competition car, plus BC Racing suspension. Between this site and our other two we list over 14,000 products.
Before you buy, settle the size and the regulations. A chart will not tell you how a helmet feels around your temples, and your championship decides which approval it will accept. A helmet worn outdoors cannot come back, and neither can a suit made to your measurements.
So we keep a showroom, we hold stock, and we would rather spend ten minutes on a size than process a return. Ring 0115 9893488 and CallyAI can sort most of it on the call, including booking you a slot to come and try things on.
Garreth starts GSM Performance, building and modifying cars, then moving into performance parts.
The Nottinghamshire showroom opens, with motorsport seats, harnesses and brake conversions on display.
Product video reviews start going up on the GSM Performance YouTube channel.
The range widens to cover racewear: suits, helmets, gloves and boots.
The showroom is extended by another 1,000 square feet, taking it to 2,500.
A year spent reworking the ordering process end to end. SMS delivery updates come out of it.
4,509 products listed on this site and over 14,000 across the three stores.
My one goal has always been a level of service that beats what people expect. The market has changed a lot since 2003 and we have changed with it, but the customer sits at the centre of it either way.
Garreth Sleigh, Managing DirectorMotorsport is dangerous. Your helmet, harness, seat and racewear need to suit the car, the regulations and you. Price matters, but it comes after those three checks.
What we sell here
Five ranges on this site. Seats, harnesses, cages and brakes are on the other two.
01Helmets and HANS devices
Two hundred and seventy helmets listed, of which 178 are motorsport and 61 are karting, plus 32 visors and the accessories that go with them. Twenty six HANS and FHR lines: 11 devices, 3 hybrid and 12 accessories. OMP, Bell, Stilo and Sparco are the deepest ranges, and dozens are in the showroom to try on.
02Racewear
Two hundred and forty six lines. Suits 34, shoes 40, gloves 27, Nomex underwear 56, kit bags 33 and 35 ready made packages if you are kitting yourself out from scratch. Sparco, OMP and Alpinestars are the ranges we hold deepest.
03Kartwear
Seventy four lines of karting specific kit, alongside the 61 karting helmets. Karting has its own approvals and its own sizing, and a circuit suit is not a kart suit, so it is kept separate rather than bundled in with the car racewear.
04In-car equipment
Two thousand four hundred and six lines, and the biggest part of the site by some distance. Steering wheels and accessories account for 2,307 of it, including 2,169 boss kits, so there is a fitment for most cars. Also intercoms and communication at 72, and fire extinguishers.
05Suspension
One thousand four hundred and fifty seven coilover listings, all BC Racing, across the BR, RM, V1, ER, ZX, HM and ZR series. BC is the range we settled on and stayed with rather than carrying four brands thinly.
Sourcing kit outside the published catalogue is part of what we do. Send a part number or a photograph to Sales@GSMPerformance.co.uk and we will tell you whether we can get it and what it costs. We work closely with Corbeau, Cobra, Sparco, OMP, Bell and Stilo among others.
Why there are three websites
People buying specialist high value parts wanted better product knowledge and more choice than they were getting anywhere else, so we narrowed down to the parts we could speak about properly. That still left over 14,000 products, which is too many for one store.
Brake kits are chosen by vehicle, caliper size and disc diameter. Bucket seats are chosen by mounting type, waist size and FIA dating. Helmets are chosen by head shape and by what your regulations accept. Those filters have nothing in common, and a single store trying to do all of it serves none of it well. Same company, same phone number, same building.
The showroom
Two thousand five hundred square feet, by appointment, with seats, helmets and racewear to try before you buy.
We opened the showroom in 2012 and extended it by another 1,000 square feet in 2016. The display runs from the Sparco Circuit II, Corbeau Revenge and Cobra Evolution through to the Mirco RS2 and the Bimarco Futura. Sitting in them is the point of coming.
It carries stock from across the group, so a visit covers seats, harnesses, helmets and racewear in one go rather than three. Appointments keep it useful, because it means somebody has pulled out the sizes you asked about before you arrive.
Book at calendly.com/gsm-performance, or ring 0115 9893488 and CallyAI will book it for you.

How the showroom got built
The unit from the day we got the keys to the day it opened.

Counterfeit kit and Fake Britain
Counterfeit safety equipment is a problem in this trade, particularly harnesses. A fake can look right at a glance while using the wrong webbing, hardware or labels.
We work with over 60 brands and display the genuine article, from TRS and Takata through to Luke and Schroth. We also worked with the BBC programme Fake Britain on counterfeit motorsport equipment, which is the film below.
If you are buying a harness, helmet or HANS device from anywhere, check the approval and date against your regulations, then confirm the seller is an authorised dealer for the brand. If a price looks impossible for the product, it usually is.
How we got here
Twenty years of it, if you want the long version.
Where it all started▾
Garreth started GSM Performance in 2003. The original plan was building, modifying and customising cars to a standard good enough to get them into magazines, and several did, including Redline and Fastcar. Over the following years we supplied parts and customisation work on hundreds of vehicles.
From there we moved into performance parts, and raced our own Subaru Impreza track car and a TVR T350c. Running our own cars is what showed us where the business needed to go next.
Why we run three websites▾
People buying specialist high value parts wanted better product knowledge and more choice than they were getting. So we narrowed down to the parts we could speak about properly, and split the catalogue across three sites.
Between them they list over 14,000 products. One store holding brake kits, bucket seats, roll cages, helmets and racing suits would need a filter list nobody could read. Splitting it lets each site sort its own range on terms that make sense for it, and lets the fitting guides and information sit next to the products they belong to.
Opening the showroom▾
We opened the GSM Performance showroom in 2012, with motorsport seats, big brake conversions and harnesses on display. The seat range runs from the Sparco Circuit II, Corbeau Revenge and Cobra Evolution through to the Mirco RS2 and the Bimarco Futura. You can sit in them here rather than choosing from measurements alone.
We also supply bespoke race seating on projects, and past customers include Nike, Partick Thistle FC, MSV Explorer and Blackberry. Each one gets a tailor made quotation, a package built around what they actually asked for, and a time plan for the work.
Our customer focused approach▾
The goal has always been a level of service that beats what people expect from an online retailer. The market has changed a lot since 2003 and we have changed with it, month by month, off the back of what customers ask us for.
The team is small and picked carefully, and we take on an apprentice each year to support the local area. Our advice comes from product training and time spent handling the kit in the showroom.
Going the extra mile▾
In 2014 we started filming product video reviews. Photographs do not show how a buckle works, how thick a seat cushion is or what the back of a helmet looks like, so we put those details on our YouTube channel.
In 2015 we widened the range to cover everything that keeps a driver safe, so racing suits, helmets, gloves and boots joined the seats, harnesses and cages.
In 2016 we extended the showroom by another 1,000 square feet, taking it to 2,500, and increased the stock we hold so the racewear could go on display alongside the seats.
In 2017 we spent the year on the ordering process itself, week by week, from placing an order through to delivery, and reworked every step of it. SMS delivery updates came out of that, as did our own supporting articles and documents for products where the supplier had not provided enough information.
Looking ahead▾
Each year we add services and support without losing the small business approach, and we would like to keep it that way.

Common questions
How long has GSM Performance been trading?▾
Since 2003. The registered company is GSM Performance Limited, company number 09256002, with its registered office at Unit 5 High Hazles Road, Manvers Business Park, Nottingham NG12 3GZ.
Where are you and can I visit?▾
Unit 5 and 6 High Hazles Road, Nottingham NG12 3GZ. The showroom runs by appointment, Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 4.00pm, and it carries stock from across the group, so seats, harnesses, helmets and racewear are all in the same building. Book a slot at calendly.com/gsm-performance.
Can I sit in the seats before I buy one?▾
That is what the showroom is for. Fit is the thing people get wrong buying a bucket seat online, and twenty minutes sitting in three or four of them settles it. The seats themselves are sold on sportseats4u.co.uk, but they live in this showroom.
Why do you have three websites?▾
Because between them we list over 14,000 products, and the filters that suit brake kits have nothing in common with the filters that suit racing suits. Splitting the catalogue lets each site sort its own range properly. It is all one company on one phone number.
Can you get products you do not list?▾
Often, yes. Sourcing kit outside the published catalogue is part of what we do, so if you have a part number or a photograph, send it over and we will tell you whether we can get it and what it will cost.
Do you do bespoke and corporate seating?▾
Yes. Past projects include Nike, Partick Thistle FC, MSV Explorer and Blackberry. Each one is quoted individually, with a package built to what was asked for and a time plan for the work.
Who answers the phone?▾
CallyAI, our AI phone agent. It books showroom appointments, gives technical advice, takes messages and sends written quotations. There is no menu and no extension to ask for, just say what you need.
Is delivery free?▾
Free on UK orders over £100, and free on European orders over £100 as well. Below those thresholds a charge is worked out at checkout.

Sizing a helmet or a suit off a chart works until it does not, and the showroom exists so you do not have to guess. Twenty minutes with the sizes in front of you settles most of it.
