What has changed for 2023
Two things have changed across the range. First, blue has joined the colour options, so the tops, bottoms and balaclavas can now be matched in blue. Second, every listing has been checked against the latest FIA approvals and carries the 2023 safety information, so you can see what each piece is approved to before you buy.
That matters because the approval belongs to each item, not the set. If your championship asks for FIA underwear, check the label on the top, the long johns, the socks and the balaclava.
The new ZX Evo V4 socks
The ZX Evo V4 socks are new for 2023 and on our site for the first time. They are made from a flame and heat-resistant aramid fibre and are approved to FIA 8856-2018.
They have a compression fit that supports the muscles and tendons, which helps blood flow and reduces fatigue on a long day. Elastane in the fabric gives them a close, comfortable fit. They come in black or white, in four sizes from UK 5 to UK 12.

Race V3 and ZX Evo V2
The Race V3 underwear is Alpinestars’ more advanced base layer. It uses flame-resistant Lenzing FR fibres for breathability, with flat seams and a relaxed fit to reduce fatigue. The long sleeve top is made to FIA 8856-2018. The Race V3 balaclava has twin-layer fabric over the face area and a hole at the front for a drinks tube.
The ZX Evo V2 set, a balaclava and long sleeve top, comes in red, yellow, black and white, and now blue too. Garreth’s advice is to buy underwear to the same standard as your suit, so the whole set is covered. Our guide to FIA fireproof underwear explains what you need under a race suit.
