A Guide To The New Stilo ST6 Helmets Released For 2025

Helmet news, December 2024

Stilo has replaced the ST5 with the ST6, and the new range is now on our site for the 2025 season. It covers helmets for open cars, closed cars and rallying, in composite and carbon, at the new FIA 8859-2024 standard and at FIA 8860-2018.

This guide explains what has changed from the ST5, what the different model names mean, and which ST6 suits which kind of motorsport.

  • The ST6 replaces the Stilo ST5
  • Most models are approved to FIA 8859-2024 and Snell SA2020
  • 8860 versions carry FIA 8860-2018
  • ABP versions add Advanced Ballistic Protection at the forehead
  • Stilo quote up to 11% less weight than the equivalent ST5 composite helmets
  • Sizes XS (54cm) to XXXL (64cm), with HANS posts fitted

What is new in the ST6

The most obvious change is the shape. The ST6 profile projects further forward than the ST5, which gives open wheel drivers more downward vision and helps the aerodynamics. The range now comes in three shell sizes, including a new extra small shell, so the helmet suits the head better instead of relying on padding to make up the difference.

The composite helmets are lighter: Stilo quote up to 11% less weight than the ST5 composite equivalents, and up to 10% on the carbon models. Inside, the cheek padding has been redesigned for a closer, more stable fit, with thicker or thinner pads available separately, and the ventilation has six chin bar vents plus crown vents. The injection moulded visor has a new washable anti-fog treatment and new hardware, and its locking system meets both FIA 8860-2018 and FIA 8859-2024.

What the model names mean

ST6 FNOpen cars, no electronics or side portsFIA 8859-2024, Snell SA2020
ST6 GTClosed cars, with built in radio connectionFIA 8859-2024, Snell SA2020
ST6 GTNClosed cars, no electronics or side portsFIA 8859-2024, or 8860-2018 on the 8860 version
ST6 RallyRallying, with built in intercom and earmuffsFIA 8859-2024, Snell SA2020
ABP versionsOpen cars, extra forehead protectionFIA 8859-2024 ABP, or 8860-2018 on the 8860 ABP version

Most models come in composite and carbon, and there are 8860 versions homologated to FIA 8860-2018, the standard asked for at the top of the sport. The ST6 FN ABP is billed as the first helmet to meet the FIA 8859-2024 ABP homologation, which adds tougher testing on the forehead area to protect open cockpit drivers from flying debris.

Which ST6 suits which driver

For single seaters and open sports cars, the FN is the starting point: the composite version for club racing, carbon to save weight, and ABP if your regulations ask for it or you want the extra forehead protection. For saloons and GT cars, choose the GT if you run a radio, and the GTN if you do not.

Rally crews get the ST6 Rally, a full face helmet with an intercom built in, including a dynamic noise cancelling microphone and noise reducing earmuffs. The composite version comes in a titanium finish.

Garreth's advice is to check what your championship asks for before looking at shells or colours: an 8859-2024 helmet covers most club and national racing, while some series specify 8860.

Sizing and bundles

The ST6 runs from XS (54cm) to XXXL (64cm), and every helmet here comes with HANS posts fitted. Measure your head just above the eyebrows before you order, and our helmet sizing guide shows how.

Every Stilo helmet listing has bundle items attached, chosen to suit that helmet, so you can add a HANS device and a balaclava in the same order.

Most are approved to FIA 8859-2024 and Snell SA2020, and the 8860 versions carry FIA 8860-2018.

Both are for closed cars; the GT has a built in radio connection and the GTN has no electronics or side ports.

Advanced Ballistic Protection, extra impact protection at the forehead for open cockpit drivers.

Yes. Stilo quote up to 11% less weight on the composite models and up to 10% on the carbon models.

XS (54cm) to XXXL (64cm), across three shell sizes.
