Sparco Flux RJ-i Carbon Helmet: Now Online
Helmet news, September 2025
The Sparco Flux RJ-i Carbon is now on the site. It is the carbon fibre version of the Flux RJ-i, Sparco's open-face helmet with a built-in intercom, and it sits at the top of the Flux RJ range.
Like the rest of the Flux RJ family it is approved to FIA 8859-2024, the newest FIA helmet standard. What the carbon version adds is a lighter shell and an exposed carbon finish, with the intercom, microphone and HANS posts fitted at the factory.

What the Flux RJ-i Carbon is
The Flux RJ is Sparco’s open-face helmet for FIA 8859-2024. The RJ-i is the version with an intercom built in, and the RJ-i Carbon takes that helmet and swaps the shell for carbon fibre.
Inside it has the same comfort features as the rest of the range: EPS padding, ventilation, and a flame-retardant lining you can take out and wash. HANS posts are fitted from the factory, so it is ready for a head and neck restraint straight away.
Carbon or the standard RJ-i
Both helmets carry the same FIA 8859-2024 approval, so the choice is not about the standard. The difference is the shell. The standard Flux RJ-i uses fibreglass reinforced with a carbon liner and comes in matt black or gloss white. The RJ-i Carbon uses a carbon fibre shell and is finished in exposed carbon.
A lighter shell is easier on your neck when you wear the helmet for hours, which is why it appeals to rally crews and endurance drivers. Garreth’s advice is to try the fit first either way, because a helmet that fits properly matters more than a few grams.

Why the built-in intercom matters
The RJ-i Carbon comes with speakers and an adjustable noise-cancelling microphone fitted. In rallying the co-driver's pace notes have to be heard clearly over a loud car, and in endurance racing the driver needs to hear the pit wall.
Having the intercom built in means there is no aftermarket kit to fit into the lining, and the microphone arm is designed to sit close without getting in the way.

An open-face helmet gives you more airflow and a wider view, which suits closed cars, rallying and endurance events. It does leave the lower face open, so it is not the right helmet for open cars or every discipline. Check your championship’s rules, and see our guide to open-face FIA helmets for how they compare with full-face designs.
