The OMP Sport set: what the cheapest FIA-approved three-piece actually gives you
At scrutineering, the question is not about price. It is about whether the approval is current and present. The OMP Sport suit, Sport boots and Sport gloves each carry FIA 8856-2018. All three clear the same standard as the ranges above them on the OMP ladder, because the standard is the standard.
The complete set costs £528. That is the lowest price at which we can build a full FIA 8856-2018 three-piece from OMP. The step up to the OMP First set is £86.40, and what that money buys is real and explained below. This guide covers who should stop at Sport, and what the differences actually are when you look at the products side by side.
One note from the research: the suit’s Approval attribute in the store reads “3 Layers.” That is not correct. The OMP Sport is a 2-layer Nomex suit, as our own description text confirms. The attribute is wrong and has been flagged for correction.

The entry point for FIA 8856-2018
The Sport set sits one step below the OMP First set. Both carry FIA 8856-2018 approval on the suit, boots and gloves. The differences between them are in construction, not in the approval printed on the homologation card.
The approval is the same
The Sport suit, First S suit and Tecnica Evo suit all carry FIA 8856-2018. So do the boots and gloves at every price point. If a scrutineer is satisfied with a First S, they are satisfied with a Sport. The difference is construction, not the card.
What the First suit adds
Floating arm construction that removes resistance when reaching across the car, ultraflat seams that reduce pressure on longer stints, and shoulder points designed for an FHR device. The Sport uses standard construction with comfort inserts at the back shoulders. First season in a club car: the gap is small. Adding a HANS device: the FHR shoulder design matters.
What the First gloves and boots add
The First gloves add external seams and a pre-curved cut at £10.80 more. The First boots run a different construction at £25.20 more. Neither difference is dramatic at a first season level. Both become more noticeable over fifteen or more events a year.
Who should stay at Sport
First season, club events, FIA 8856-2018 required and nothing more. The Sport set delivers a correct FIA approval at the lowest price we can build one. If the budget stretches to £614.40, put the extra into the First S suit first. That is where the construction step does the most work.

The suit
The OMP Sport (IA0-1847-C01) is a 2-layer Nomex race suit, material weight 400 g/m². Soft knitted inserts across the back shoulders reduce the resistance you feel when reaching across the car.
Five sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL. That range covers most drivers but is not the widest in the OMP catalogue. If you are between sizes, or buying a suit for someone who is tall with a shorter waist, the right answer is to send us your chest, waist, inside leg and height. Suit sizing does not map to a chest size the way street clothes do.
Three colourways: Black, Blue and Red. The Blue is a deep navy. Approved underwear is required alongside the suit in most regulations, and the OMP First range covers that at the same specification level.

The OMP Sport boot (IC0-0829-A01) is FIA 8856-2018. Microfibre upper, Nomex inner lining, fire-resistant rubber sole with a tyre-tread pattern that puts more contact area against the pedal face than a smooth sole. Traditional lace closure with a velcro strap over the top.
Four colourways: Black & Red, Black & White, Black & Fluro Yellow and Black & Cyan. Sizes from EU 36 (UK 3.5) to EU 47 (UK 12). The EU 36 lower end is the widest coverage in the OMP boot range, and it matters for drivers who struggle to find motorsport boots that fit.
Note: the Material attribute on this listing reads “Suede.” The correct material is microfibre. That has been flagged for correction.

The gloves
The OMP Sport gloves (IB0-0777-B01) are FIA 8856-2018. Nomex construction, silicone palm print for grip on the wheel rim, elasticated wrist closure. Internal seams with a standard flat cut. Five sizes: XS to XL.
Four colourways: Black & Red, Black & White, Dark Blue & Cyan and Black & Fluro Yellow. The “cyan” on the Dark Blue & Cyan glove is a medium blue accent rather than the bright teal the name suggests. The main panel is a deep navy. Worth knowing before you build a colour match across the set.
The Sport gloves sit at £78. The OMP First Race Gloves are £88.80 and add external seams and a pre-curved cut that brings the glove closer to the shape of a hand on a wheel. The difference is real. For a first season, the Sport is a sensible start.

Which colours go together
Three suit colourways, four each for boots and gloves. The strongest matches come from shared colourway names, and the OMP Sport range makes that straightforward on the Red and Black suits.

Hexes sampled from the real variation photographs. The Dark Blue & Cyan glove “cyan” reads as a medium blue in the photograph, not a bright teal. The Boot “Fluro Yellow” is an olive-lime tone in the photographs, not a high-visibility yellow. Both are honest reads of the images.

Black
The Black suit is the most flexible of the three. Any of the four boot colourways works with it. Black & Red boots and gloves pull one colour through all three pieces.
Blue
The Blue suit is a deep navy. The Black & Cyan boot (#4bc2db) is a lighter sky blue, not a match, but it works as a family with the Dark Blue & Cyan gloves (#1d385b on the main panel). Complementary, not exact.

What else sits at this money
The Sport set at £528 is the lowest price for a full FIA 8856-2018 three-piece we stock. The natural comparison is the OMP First set at £614.40, covered in detail above.
For drivers who want to mix ranges: the Sport boots and Sport gloves both work alongside a First S or Tecnica suit. Spending the savings on the suit is the honest advice. The protection hierarchy runs suit first, then helmet, then gloves and boots.
Other brands at this price level: the Alpinestars Atom set starts around £786, and the Sparco Sprint Advanced runs higher still. Both carry FIA 8856-2018. Neither comes close to £528. If the budget is the deciding factor, the Sport set is the correct starting point.

What I would actually buy
If my budget was fixed at £528 for a first season, I would buy this set. The approval is correct and current. The suit is genuine Nomex, the boots pass scrutineering, the gloves pass scrutineering. The construction differences from the First set don’t show in a first season. If the budget stretched to £614.40, I’d put the extra £86.40 into the First S suit and keep the Sport boots and gloves. The suit is where that money makes the most difference, because the FHR shoulder design on the First S matters once you add a HANS device, and the Sport suit doesn’t have it.
Final thoughts
The OMP Sport set answers the question most new drivers are actually asking: what is the least I can spend on a proper FIA-approved three-piece? The answer is £528, and at that price you’re not being sold a compromise. The approval is FIA 8856-2018 across all three pieces. The suit is 2-layer Nomex. The set is what entry-level should look like when it is done correctly.
