The Alpinestars Hypertech V3 set: flagship 2-layer suit, Supertech boots and Tech 1-ZX V4 gloves
The Alpinestars Hypertech V3 is the most expensive race suit we stock, and it is two layers. Not three. At this end of the FIA 8856-2018 range, Alpinestars engineers a specific 265 g/sqm Nomex compound rather than adding a third layer of standard material. The weight reduction and the increased quality of the Nomex are what you are paying for.
The Supertech is Alpinestars’ top racing boot: FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3/5 certified, carbon heel cup, 3D-printed midsole. Alpinestars lists the Supertech and the Tech 1-ZX V4 gloves as the “Complete the look” accessories for the Hypertech V3 on their own site.
Set: £2,505.60 inc VAT. Suit £1,896, boots £427.20, gloves £182.40. Three suit colourways, three Supertech boot colourways, six glove colourways. All three pieces carry FIA 8856-2018.

Where the Hypertech V3 sits
I’m Cameron. The Hypertech V3 is the suit I’d suggest to a driver who has been through several seasons, knows exactly what they are looking for, and has decided that weight and construction quality are worth paying for in a suit.
It is not the suit I’d put in front of a driver buying their first FIA 8856-2018 three-piece. The GP Tech V4 at £780 inc VAT gives you three-layer FIA 8856-2018 certification at less than half the Hypertech V3’s price, in a full matched set with boots and gloves. The certification is the same. The construction is not, but you have to know what you are looking for to feel the difference.
The Hypertech V3 belongs to the same category as the OMP One Evo X and the Sparco Superleggera: a suit where the brief is the best available material and construction at the FIA 8856-2018 standard, regardless of layer count. All three have set guides on this site. This completes the flagship three-brand set: One Evo X from OMP, Superleggera from Sparco, Hypertech V3 from Alpinestars.
Two layers at the top of the range
The GP Tech V4 is three-layer FIA 8856-2018. The Hypertech V3 is two layers and costs more than twice as much. Alpinestars’ reasoning: a high-quality 265 g/sqm Nomex compound provides the protection without the weight penalty of a standard third layer. This is the same engineering argument Sparco make for the Superleggera. The suit is lighter and uses a better Nomex compound than a standard three-layer build. The price reflects what Alpinestars put into the material, not the layer count.
A dual-certified boot in the set
The Supertech carries both FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3/5. Most UK national championships require only FIA certification. The SFI standard covers SCCA and IMSA rule sets in North America. If you compete in series that require SFI, the Supertech covers both. If you compete only in FIA-regulated series, the dual certification adds no regulatory benefit; it does indicate a boot built to a very specific brief. The carbon heel cup and 3D-printed midsole are the practical differences you will notice on track.
Where it sits: Alpinestars’ FIA 8856-2018 range
The Alpinestars FIA 8856-2018 race suit range runs from the GP Race V2 at entry level, through the GP Race V3 and GP Tech V4 (both three-layer), up to the Hypertech V3. There are set guides for the GP Race V3 and GP Tech V4 on this site. The Hypertech V3 is the step that changes both the construction approach and the price category. The Hypertech V3 runs a two-layer brief; the GP Tech V4 does not.
Alpinestars’ own pairing
The Alpinestars EU site “Complete the look” section for the Hypertech V3 specifically lists the Supertech boot and the Tech 1-ZX V4 glove. That is not a random cross-sell; it is the set Alpinestars designed the suit to be worn with. The Supertech’s sole-to-pedal feedback and the Tech 1-ZX V4’s external seam construction are both aimed at the same driver profile: someone who wants to remove every unnecessary layer of material from the feedback between themselves and the car.
The suit
The Alpinestars Hypertech V3 Race Suit is FIA 8856-2018. Two-layer construction with a 265 g/sqm Nomex main layer. Stretch panels at the back and inner arms. Three colourways: Black, Mid Grey & Black & Fluro Red, White & Black & Silver. Sizes 44 to 60 in Alpinestars’ European race suit sizing.
The 265 g/sqm Nomex spec is heavier than the standard Nomex used in entry-level FIA suits, and lighter in use because the construction removes the inner lining layer. The result is a suit that is more breathable on a long stint and less bulky at the wrists and collar. Whether that translates to a meaningful difference on track depends on what you are coming from. Drivers moving from a heavier three-layer entry-level suit tend to notice it. Drivers moving from the GP Tech V4 notice it less.
Alpinestars race suit sizing runs slightly small. Use the full measurements (chest, waist, inside leg and height) against the Alpinestars size guide, not your jacket size. If you are between sizes, take the larger. If you need help identifying the spec before ordering, drop us an email or click to open a chat and we’ll help you confirm it.

The boots
The Alpinestars Supertech Race Boots are FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3/5. Carbon heel cup, 3D-printed midsole. Three colourways: Black, Grey & Black & Yellow, White & Red & Black. Sizes UK 6 to UK 12.
The carbon heel cup stiffens the heel section without adding weight. The 3D-printed midsole gives a direct, consistent feel under the sole of the foot without the compression you get from a foam midsole over time. Both are features aimed at a driver who wants to reduce the material between the sole of the foot and the pedal. If you are not specifically looking for that, the Tech-10 boot at a lower price point gives you FIA 8856-2018 certification in a very well-made boot at less cost.
The Supertech fits snugly. Most drivers take their standard shoe size; if you are between sizes, go half a size up. No direct grey colourway is available in the Supertech range, so the Mid Grey & Fluro Red suit pairs with Black boots or the White & Red & Black colourway. Both are covered in the colour matching section below.

The gloves
The Tech 1-ZX V4 gloves appear in three set guides on this site: the GP Race V3 guide, the GP Tech V4 guide and this one. They are the same product in all three sets. The full specification, including the external-seam construction detail, the complete colourway run and the sizing chart, is in the GP Race V3 guide.
For this set, what matters: six colourways, FIA 8856-2018, sizes S to XXL. Black & Red links best to the fluro red accents on the Mid Grey suit. Black & Anthracite or Black give the cleanest pairing with the Black suit. Against the White & Black & Silver suit, Black, White & Red adds a secondary white and red accent that ties to the boots.

Which colours go together
All three pieces match. Boots Black, Grey & Yellow or White & Red & Black also pair cleanly. Gloves: any of the six colourways work against the black suit.
There is no grey colourway in the Supertech range. Black boots read cleanly against the mid grey suit. Black & Red gloves link to the fluro red panel accents on the suit.
White boot body matches the suit. The red accent on the boots and gloves reads as a detail against the white and silver. Black & Anthracite gloves give a cleaner, monochrome look.
The colourways, shown
01 / 03Black
All three pieces. Any of the six glove colourways work against the black suit.
02 / 03Mid Grey & Fluro Red
No grey Supertech boot. Black boots, Black & Red gloves to echo the fluro red accents.
Fit and sizing
| Piece | Sizes | What to measure |
|---|---|---|
| Alpinestars Hypertech V3 Race Suit | 44–60 (9 sizes) | Chest, waist, inside leg and height together. Alpinestars race suit sizing runs slightly small; use the size guide, not jacket size. |
| Alpinestars Supertech Race Boots | UK 6–UK 12 (7 half sizes, 13 total) | Most drivers take their standard shoe size. The Supertech has a snug fit; go half a size up if between sizes. |
| Alpinestars Tech 1-ZX V4 Gloves | S, M, L, XL, XXL | Palm circumference at the widest point of the hand, snug not tight. Full sizing in the GP Race V3 guide. |
Alpinestars race suit sizing is independent of their road or casual wear sizing. Always use the full set of measurements against the race suit size guide: chest, waist, inside leg, and height together. If measurements fall between two sizes, take the larger. The Hypertech V3 is cut for a racing position; it will feel shorter in the body when standing than a road jacket of the same chest measurement.
Glove sizing: full chart in the GP Race V3 guide.
What else at this level
The Hypertech V3 sits in the same tier as two other suits we stock with set guides:
OMP One Evo X: three-layer FIA 8856-2018, Super Light construction, set guide on this site. The One Evo X costs around a third less than the Hypertech V3 set. Three layers versus two; the Hypertech V3 is lighter and uses a higher-spec Nomex.
Sparco Superleggera: two-layer FIA 8856-2018, the highest-spec Sparco race suit we stock. Set guide publishing shortly. Similar construction philosophy to the Hypertech V3.
Below this tier: the GP Tech V4 guide covers three-layer FIA 8856-2018 at around £1,400 inc VAT for the set, just over half the Hypertech V3 price. The certification is the same. The question is whether the construction difference matters to you.
My verdict
I’m Cameron. Here is who this set is for: a driver who has been in a standard three-layer FIA suit for several seasons, knows the weight is the thing they want to change, and has decided the price difference is worth it.
The Hypertech V3’s 2-layer construction is the engineering position Alpinestars, Sparco with the Superleggera, and OMP with the One Evo X all take at the top of their ranges: better Nomex, less material, same protection. You need to be the kind of driver who notices the difference in a suit to justify the price. Most drivers at club level do not.
The Supertech boot is genuinely excellent. The carbon heel cup and the 3D-printed midsole do what they claim, and the dual FIA/SFI certification means it works if you run in IMSA or SCCA series. If you want the boots without the Hypertech suit price, they pair equally well with the GP Tech V4.
The Tech 1-ZX V4 gloves are unchanged from the GP Race V3 and GP Tech V4 sets. External seams, six colourways. A good glove at any level in the range.
