What is on this page
From GT5 Sport to GT6 Sport
The GT6 Sport takes over from the GT5 Sport as the most affordable closed-face helmet in Bell’s range. It borrows the look of the GT6 Pro, with a cleaner visor line and a smoother chin bar, and keeps the feature list simple for drivers who are new to racing or stepping up from track days.
The shell is a fibreglass composite, with a multi-density lining inside and ventilation channels to move air through the helmet. The part that most people notice when they try it on is the visor opening. It is wide, which helps in a closed car where you are looking out through a windscreen and across door pillars, and it takes Bell’s 6-Series visors.
Because it is a full-face helmet it also works in an open car, so one helmet can cover more than one kind of racing.
Approved to FIA 8859-2024
FIA 8859-2024 is the newest FIA standard for car racing helmets, and the GT6 Sport carries it. For a club racer that matters because championships list the helmet standards they accept, and a helmet approved to the latest standard is the one that stays eligible longest as older approvals are phased out.
Always check your own championship’s regulations before you buy. Our guide to FIA 8859-2024 explains what the standard covers and how it sits beside the older approvals.
If you run a HANS or other head restraint, order the GT6 Sport with the posts already fitted so it is ready to clip on. If you do not use one, the version without posts is there too.
We also list it as a package with a Schroth HANS device or a Simpson Hybrid Sport, which is the simplest way to buy a helmet and head restraint that are set up for each other.

The GT6 Sport beside the GP3 Sport
We have the GT6 Sport on display next to the Bell GP3 Sport, which makes it easy to compare two closed-face Bell helmets that are built for different jobs.
The GT6 Sport’s larger visor opening suits closed-cockpit cars, where a wide field of view is what you want. The GP3 Sport has a longer chin bar and a narrower visor aperture, which gives more protection from debris and stones, so it is the one we point open-cockpit drivers towards. It also has a carbon-glass composite shell.
Garreth’s advice is to try both on. Fit matters more than anything else in a helmet, and two helmets in the same size can feel quite different. Our helmet sizing guide shows how to measure your head before you come in.
