Are Momo, Sparco and OMP Boss Kits and Steering Wheels All Compatible?

One of the common questions we get is: Are Momo, Sparco, and OMP steering wheels and boss kits compatible with each other? The short answer is yes, you can mix and match these brands without issue. All three brands of steering wheels (Momo, Sparco, and OMP) share a standard 6-bolt mounting pattern, which means they will fit the same boss kits and quick-release hubs.

We have many boss kits available that are made to order from Momo and B-G (B-G Racing). We don’t currently have Sparco or OMP-branded boss kits available, but the good news is you don’t need a Sparco or OMP boss specifically to fit their wheels. A Momo or B-G boss kit will work perfectly with a Sparco or OMP steering wheel because of that universal bolt pattern. In addition, all four brands, Momo, Sparco, OMP, and B-G, offer quick-release hub kits that also use this same universal pattern. In this blog post, we’ll explain how these parts all work together and how you can configure your ideal steering setup with confidence in the compatibility.

Upgrading your steering wheel and hub setup is about more than just changing the look of your interior. An aftermarket steering wheel, paired with the right boss kit (and optional quick-release), can transform your driving experience by improving driver feedback and ergonomics.

Why Upgrade to an Aftermarket Steering Wheel?

Upgrading to an aftermarket steering is about more than just looks, it’s a change that transforms your driving feel. These steering wheels are lighter, smaller in diameter, and designed with motorsport ergonomics in mind. They provide improved grip, more precise control, and greater driver feedback.

For daily drivers, show cars, and track builds alike, a performance steering wheel offers:

  • A sportier and more responsive feel
  • Customisable sizes, dish depths, and grip styles
  • Improved interior styling—modern or retro
  • Compatibility with quick-release kits for extra functionality

Whether you’re building a time attack car, a drift machine, or a modern classic, swapping to a quality aftermarket wheel is one of the most tactile and satisfying upgrades available.

To fit an aftermarket steering wheel, you need a boss kit. A boss kit acts as the bridge between your steering column and the wheel itself. It bolts to the column, providing the mounting surface for your chosen steering wheel, while also ensuring the horn and, in some cases, airbag functionality are properly managed.

Overall, an aftermarket steering setup gives you a more engaging connection to your car. It’s one of the most tactile upgrades you can make, every time you drive, you feel the difference in how the car responds and how the wheel feels in your hands.

The Bolt Pattern Explained

So how can Momo, Sparco, and OMP wheels all fit the same boss kits? The secret is the universal 6-point bolt pattern used by these brands. The vast majority of aftermarket motorsport steering wheels (including all Momo, Sparco, and OMP wheels we carry) use a 6-bolt mounting pattern on a 70mm diameter circle (often referred to as a “6x70mm PCD”). This has become an industry-standard pattern.

What this means for you is that any steering wheel from those brands will share the same bolt layout. The wheel secures to the hub with six bolts spaced evenly around the circle, and because the pattern and spacing of those bolts are standardized, you can mix and match brands freely. For example:

  • Want to mount a Sparco steering wheel on a Momo boss kit? No problem, the bolt holes line up perfectly.
  • Found an OMP wheel you love, but your hub is a B-G Racing hub adapter? It will bolt right on.
  • Using a quick-release kit from one brand with a wheel from another? As long as they use the 6×70 pattern (all the ones we stock do), they’ll match up seamlessly.

All the quick-release hub kits we offer also use this same 6-bolt pattern on both sides of the release. This is important; the quick release is essentially a two-piece coupling that sits between your wheel and your boss. One half bolts to the boss kit (using the 6-bolt pattern), and the other half bolts to the steering wheel (also using the 6-bolt pattern). Because of the universal pattern, you can use, say, a Sparco quick-release with a Momo hub and an OMP wheel, and everything lines up.

(Side note: There are a few other bolt patterns in the steering wheel world, for instance, Nardi/Personal wheels use a slightly larger 6x74mm pattern, but virtually all Momo, Sparco, OMP, and B-G products use the 6×70 pattern, which is by far the most common. If you stick to those brands and our product range, you won’t have to worry about mismatched patterns.)

How It All Fits Together

Let’s break down the components of a typical aftermarket steering wheel installation and how they stack up:

  • Boss Kit (Hub Adapter): This is the first piece that mounts to your car. One end of the boss kit has a vehicle-specific spline that slides onto your car’s steering column. This is how the hub attaches securely to your steering shaft; it’s specific to the make/model (and sometimes year) of your vehicle. The other end of the boss kit has a flat face with that universal 6-bolt pattern. Essentially, the boss kit converts your car’s unique steering column fitting to the standard bolt pattern for aftermarket wheels. (Boss kits often also include provisions for things like cancelling the turn signal indicator and wiring a horn button, so those features continue to work with your new wheel.)
  • Quick-Release Hub (Optional): If you choose to install a quick-release, this goes between the boss kit and the steering wheel. A quick-release comes in two halves: one half bolts onto the boss kit’s 6-bolt pattern, and the other half bolts to the steering wheel’s 6-bolt pattern. The two halves then lock together (usually via a splined mechanism with a sleeve or button release). The quick-release’s job is to allow rapid removal of the steering wheel. It effectively acts as a spacer too, since it has some thickness. If you don’t need a quick-release, you can bolt your steering wheel directly to the boss kit’s face and ignore this part. But if you do want one, it will sandwich neatly in the middle of the setup. All of the quick-release hubs we sell are the bolt-on type, no welding required. They use the same standardized bolt pattern, so installing one is straightforward.
  • Steering Wheel: This is the part you hold and drive with, the new wheel from Momo, Sparco, or OMP. The wheel has the matching 6-hole pattern on its center (usually hidden by a horn button or plate). It bolts onto the boss kit or quick-release (whichever is at the end of your stack). With the boss providing the car-specific attachment and the universal pattern handling the wheel side, the new steering wheel mounts up securely to the car. Most aftermarket wheels also include a center horn button that you can wire through the boss kit so your horn still works.

In summary, the assembly on your car would go in this order: Steering Column > Boss Kit > (Quick Release, if used) > Steering Wheel. With Momo, Sparco, and OMP, the interfaces between those parts are all standard, so each piece fits the next. Always remember that the boss kit is a required component; a quick-release by itself won’t attach a wheel to the car’s splines. The boss kit is the foundation that every setup needs, and then the quick-release is an add-on for those who want that functionality.

Our Boss Kit Range

Choosing the right boss kit is step one. We carry a wide range of boss kits from MOMO and B-G Racing (B-G) to cover hundreds of different vehicle models and brands. No matter if you drive a popular hot hatch, a Japanese drift car, an American muscle car, or a classic British sports car, there’s likely a boss kit in our catalog to fit your steering column.

All our boss kits, whether Momo or B-G, will give you that standard 6-bolt mounting face for your new wheel. This means once you’ve got the correct boss kit on your column, the rest of the steering wheel world is at your fingertips; you can pick any compatible wheel (OMP, Sparco, Momo, etc.) to bolt on.

  • Momo Boss Kits: Momo is one of the original pioneers of aftermarket steering wheels and hubs. Their boss kits are well-engineered and built to high safety standards (many are TÜV approved for road use). Each Momo hub kit is made for a specific vehicle application, matching the spline pattern, diameter, and even things like the indicator cancel tab for that car. On the wheel side, they all have the 6x70mm universal pattern. Momo offers applications for modern cars and classics alike. For example, you can find Momo hubs for everything from a Mazda MX-5 or BMW 3-Series, to older classics like an early Porsche 911 or a vintage Mini. With over 50 years in the business, Momo’s range is extensive and trusted.
  • B-G Racing Boss Kits: B-G Racing (often just called B-G) is another top brand we stock. B-G boss kits are designed with the same philosophy: vehicle-specific fit on one side, universal 6-bolt on the other. B-G has quickly become popular for its comprehensive coverage and value. In fact, between Momo and B-G, we’ve got one of the largest selections of boss kits in the UK, and B-G alone covers many models that other brands might overlook. B-G’s range includes a lot of classic cars and niche models. For instance, they produce hub adapters for various classic American cars, rare models, and newer vehicles as well. Each B-G kit comes with the necessary hardware (like mounting bolts and horn wiring) and often includes features like an integrated indicator cancel ring and a resistor to disable an airbag light if your car had an OEM airbag wheel. They are built sturdy and are a great choice for street or motorsport use.

Our Quick-Release Kit Selection

All the quick-release kits we stock from B-G, Sparco, and OMP use the same 6-bolt pattern as our steering wheels and boss kits. This means you can mix brands without any fitment issues, for example, you can use a Sparco quick-release with a Momo boss and an OMP wheel.

They’re all bolt-on kits, so no welding or custom work is needed. One half bolts to the boss kit, the other to the steering wheel, and the two halves lock together securely. The locking mechanisms vary slightly between brands but all are solid, reliable, and designed to feel just like a fixed setup when driving.

Drivers choose quick-release hubs for easier access to the cockpit, especially in cars with tight bucket seats or roll cages. They also act as a simple theft deterrent and give the car a clean motorsport feel. You’ll find different finishes and styles across brands, but all function the same way and are built to last. Just choose the one that fits your setup and style best.

Steering Wheels to Match

Of course, the star of the show is the steering wheel itself. We’re proud to stock a wide range of Momo, Sparco, and OMP steering wheels to suit all tastes and driving needs. All of these wheels are high-quality pieces from respected brands, and they come in many styles so you can find the perfect match for your car and comfort.

All these brands offer different grip materials and styles to suit how you drive. Suede is great for grip, especially with gloves, while leather is tougher and better for regular road use without gloves.

You can also choose how far the wheel sits from you. A flat wheel keeps things close to stock, a deep dish wheel brings it closer if you sit further back, and a semi-dish gives a balance between the two.

There are plenty of styles too, from clean three-spoke designs to wheels with horn buttons or extra controls. And since they all use the same bolt pattern, you can pick any wheel you like and be confident it will fit your boss kit or quick-release hub.

Tips for Choosing the Right Steering Setup

  • Start with the Right Boss Kit: Your boss kit must match your car’s make, model, and year. This is the part that connects your new steering wheel to your car. Momo and B-G offer options for a wide range of vehicles, including those with or without airbags.
  • Leather or Suede Wheel? Leather is better for everyday use, while suede offers more grip, especially when wearing gloves. Suede needs a bit more care and is best for track-focused setups.
  • Wheel Size: Smaller wheels (like 330mm) feel more responsive and free up legroom. Larger wheels (like 350mm) offer more leverage and suit bigger dashboards or cars without power steering.
  • Dish and Distance: Dish refers to how deep the wheel is. Flat wheels sit close to the dash, while deep-dish wheels bring it closer to you. Quick-release kits and spacers also affect how far the wheel sits.
  • Installation Basics: Always follow fitting instructions. Make sure everything’s tight, aligned, and safe. If your original wheel had an airbag, your new setup might need resistors or extra wiring.
  • Legal Considerations: Swapping wheels on road cars with airbags can raise legal or insurance questions. It’s common for track or show cars, but check local rules and keep your original wheel just in case.
  • Choose What Feels Right: Whether you want a sporty feel, better grip, or easier access, it’s all about what suits your driving. If you’re unsure, reach out to us, and we’ll help you pick the right setup.
