The Five Most Affordable Helmet Bags

Helmet bags from £37.20

A helmet bag is usually the last thing anyone thinks about. The helmet goes on the passenger seat on the way home, or loose in the boot, and the bag that came in the box is still unwrapped from the day the helmet arrived. Garreth's view is simple: if you spent £337 on a helmet, spending £37.20 on something to protect it is the easiest call in the kit list. The bags on this page run from £37.20 to £57.90 inc VAT. Four are soft padded bags and one, the Sparco Foldable Helmet Box at £55.80, is a rigid shell that folds flat when you do not need it.

Cameron's first question when someone orders a helmet bag is usually what else they are carrying. Most drivers only need a single-helmet soft bag. The OMP Co-Driver Bag at £50.40 is a different proposition: it is built for a rally co-driver who also needs to carry gloves, pace notes and race documents alongside the helmet. If you drive with a co-driver, or you carry a lot of kit, that extra organisation is genuinely useful rather than wasted space.

  • Five bags from £37.20 to £57.90 inc VAT. Order before 2pm for same-day despatch on stocked items.
  • The Sparco Foldable Helmet Box at £55.80 is the only rigid option and folds flat for storage.
  • The OMP Co-Driver Bag at £50.40 carries gloves, pace notes and race documents alongside the helmet.
  • The Bell Helmet Bag at £57.90 is the most expensive soft bag on this page.
  • None of the bags on this page require a brand-matched helmet.

Rocked-IT Helmet Bag, £37.20. The cheapest bag on this page. Shower-resistant fabric, zip closure, external pockets for gloves and accessories. It is a functional bag with no frills, and at £37.20 it costs less than a replacement visor on most helmets. If you want basic protection for regular trackday use, this does the job.

Sparco Helmet Bag, £43.20. A padded clamshell design with a secondary pocket for a visor or balaclava. The padding is more substantial than the Rocked-IT. At £43.20 it is the natural step up if you want a bag that is slightly more forgiving when things get thrown around in a race transporter. Garreth would spend the extra £6 here over the Rocked-IT for a helmet that cost £300 or more.

OMP Co-Driver Bag, £50.40. This one is built around a different use case. A rally co-driver needs to carry a helmet, gloves, pace notes, pens and sometimes a tablet or roadbook alongside. The OMP Co-Driver Bag organises all of that in one bag, with separate compartments for each. Cameron sees these go on co-driver orders and on multi-day rally entries where keeping the kit organised matters as much as protecting it. For a solo circuit driver who only carries a helmet, the Sparco at £43.20 is probably sufficient.

Sparco Foldable Helmet Box, £55.80. The only rigid option on this page. Unlike the soft bags above, the Sparco Foldable Helmet Box does not compress under a pile of kit in the boot. It takes one or two helmets, which makes it useful if you share a car. When you do not need it, it folds flat. At £55.80, it is £18.60 more than the Rocked-IT. Garreth’s view is that if the helmet travels in the same boot as toolboxes and tyre equipment, spending the extra £18.60 on something that goes rigid is easily justified.

Bell Helmet Bag, £57.90. A padded soft bag measuring 38 x 29 x 27 cm, with a soft inner lining to protect the helmet shell and visor area. At £57.90 it is the most expensive soft bag on this page. It suits Bell helmet owners who want a branded match, though the fit is standard and it takes any helmet of that size, not only Bell helmets. The Sparco Foldable Box at £55.80 offers more protection for £2.10 less, so the Bell is the choice when brand matching matters more than rigidity.

Soft bag or rigid box

Four of these five bags are soft, padded fabric. They protect against scratches and minor knocks, and they are light to carry. Where they fall short is under weight: in a fully loaded race van or transporter boot, a soft bag gets compressed. A heavy toolbox on top will push down on the helmet’s visor area or the chin bar, and the padding does only so much.

The Sparco Foldable Helmet Box holds its shape regardless of what goes on top of it. If your helmet travels in the back of a van with other people’s equipment, or in a shared trailer, rigid is worth the extra cost. It also takes two helmets, which is a useful feature if you drive with a co-driver or a regular passenger who has their own helmet. When you get home, it folds flat and goes on a shelf, not in the boot.

The soft bags on this page are fine for a trackday in your own car where you control what goes near the helmet. If that is your use, the Rocked-IT at £37.20 or the Sparco at £43.20 covers it. If the helmet is going on a race weekend with a full kit load, the Sparco Foldable Box at £55.80 is the one worth choosing.

No, these bags are sized for a helmet only. The Sparco DryTech Helmet and HANS Dryer Bag and the Bell Helmet and HANS Bag (both higher up the range) are designed to take a helmet and a HANS device together. If you want to carry both in one bag, those are the options to look at. Drop us an email or click to open a chat and we can confirm which bag takes your specific HANS device.

The Sparco Foldable Helmet Box is the only bag on this page rated for two helmets. The soft bags are all single-helmet bags. Forcing two helmets into a single-helmet soft bag risks scratching the shells against each other.

No. A Sparco bag fits a Bell helmet, a Rocked-IT bag fits an OMP helmet. The size and shape of a full-face helmet is broadly standard across brands. Some branded bags are a closer match for the specific helmets made by that manufacturer, but none of the five bags on this page are helmet-specific or brand-locked.
