New Alpinestars Start V3 Gloves In-Store
Racewear news, October 2023
Alpinestars have released the Tech 1 Start V3 race glove for 2023, and the first black pairs are on display in our showroom. It replaces the Tech 1 Start V2, with a new design, new colours and a new grip pattern on the palm.
The V3 is approved to FIA 8856-2018, so it suits any motorsport event that asks for approved gloves. We have sizes from small to extra large in the showroom to try on.

What is new on the V3
The Start V3 is a redesign of the Tech 1 Start V2, not just a change of colour. The most obvious difference is on the palm, where the silicone grip print has a new pattern, placed where your hands meet the wheel and the gear lever.
Alpinestars have also worked on comfort. The back of the glove is a single panel, which means fewer seams to press on the hand, and the fingers are pre-curved so there is less material bunching up when you grip the wheel.

Underneath, it is a Nomex glove with a fire resistant lining and an elasticated wrist, approved to FIA 8856-2018. That approval is the current standard for race gloves, so the V3 is suitable wherever approved gloves are required. As always, check the label against your own championship’s rules.
In the showroom now
The black Start V3 is on display in the showroom, in sizes small to extra large, and we have them ready to send out or collect. Garreth's advice with gloves is to try them on and make a fist: a race glove should be snug with no loose material at the fingertips.
With the V3 in, the old Start V2 is discontinued. We have a limited number of V2 gloves left, and those are on clearance on the website.

Building an Alpinestars set
Gloves are compulsory in most forms of motorsport, and so are an approved suit and boots, with fire resistant underwear and a balaclava under them. If you are putting a set together, a couple of other Alpinestars pieces are on display alongside the gloves.
The Alpinestars Stratos is a two-layer FIA approved suit with fully floating arms for freedom of movement, and flat epaulets so it works with HANS devices, including the hybrid types. The Race V3 balaclava uses Lenzing FR fibres, with flat seams, a twin layer fabric over the face and a hole for a drinks tube.
Our guide to choosing an FIA race suit explains the standard the suit and gloves are tested to.
