Bell GP3 Sport and GT5 Sport: our first helmet delivery of 2025
Our first Bell helmet delivery of the 2025 season has arrived. The GP3 Sport and GT5 Sport are on the showroom shelves in a range of sizes, with a matt black GP3 Sport joining the familiar white finish for the first time on our display.
The shell construction and visor arrangements are the main differences to look at when choosing between these two full face helmets.
- GP3 Sport: carbon-glass composite shell and DSAF anti-fog visor.
- GT5 Sport: fibreglass composite shell and a wider eye opening.
- Check the approval label and supplied FHR anchors on the exact helmet you choose.
The Bell GP3 Sport in matt black
The Bell GP3 Sport uses a carbon-glass composite shell, offering an alternative to a conventional fibreglass shell or the separate, more expensive GP3 Carbon.
Bell's DSAF double screen anti-fog visor helps manage misting. Chin bar vents and adjustable top vents feed the ventilation system, while the duckbill shape at the chin is part of the GP3's shell design. The matt black helmet in our photographs also has FHR posts fitted.
The darker finish is the new addition to this January delivery. Keep the visor cleaning instructions to hand: the label on the photographed helmet warns against solvents and alcohol, and recommends helmet cleaner or distilled water. Use a clean, soft cloth and follow the instructions supplied with your own visor.

What is different about the GT5 Sport?
The GT5 Sport pairs a fibreglass composite shell with a multi-density, multi-piece liner. Its broad eye opening gives a different view out of the helmet from the GP3, so it is worth trying both rather than choosing from the exterior shape alone.
There is a full visor configuration and an optional peak, sold separately. A peak changes the visor arrangement; the helmet still has a full chin bar. Check that the configuration suits the car, event and eye protection you will use.

Get the fit and approval right
Garreth's starting point is a head measurement just above the eyebrows, followed by a proper try-on. Keep the helmet level, fasten the chin strap and check for even contact around the head. A pressure point at the forehead or a helmet that moves independently of your head is a reason to try a different size or shape.

Do not choose an approval from the model name alone. Bell lists FIA 8859-2015 for these models, but the Snell generation and supplied equipment must be checked on the particular version. Match the label to your event's requirements before buying.
Bell offers versions with or without FHR anchors. Confirm the anchors supplied with the selected helmet and their compatibility with your restraint; a photograph of one helmet does not establish the specification of every variant.
Cameron's practical check before adding a spare visor is the visor code. The 3mm Bell 3-Series replacement visor is a GP3-related accessory, not a universal GT5 visor. The 3-Series and 5-Series pivot kit also has a specific compatibility list, so send us the exact helmet model if you are unsure.
Bell's place in helmet development
Roy Richter produced the first Bell 500 in 1954. Bell introduced the Star full face helmet in 1966; its history records Dan Gurney's first use of a full face helmet in competition in 1968. Those are separate milestones in the development of the modern racing helmet.
