Simple hardware still needs careful cable routing
A pull cable avoids an electrical trigger circuit, but tight bends, poor access and a partly closed valve can make a sound kit unusable when it is needed.
We see the same installation trap repeatedly: the bottle fits, then the cable is routed afterwards. Plan the internal handle, external handle and cable bends before drilling the bottle mounts.
A cable can corrode, kink, loosen or fail to move the valve through its full travel. Inspect the complete mechanism using the maker’s instructions.
Confirm the system, agent and discipline
Use the current Motorsport UK and event rules to find the permitted standard. Match the bottle homologation number with its FIA technical list and manufacturer manual. Rally applications can have provisions that do not apply to a circuit or speed car.
The driver and marshal must be able to fire it
Place the internal handle where the driver can make a proper pull while seated normally, harness tight and steering wheel installed. The external point sits near the circuit breaker and needs the prescribed extinguisher marking.
Check the co-driver requirement where applicable. Do this in the actual seating position, not by reaching into an unfinished shell.
Avoid tight turns and incomplete valve movement
Follow the minimum bend radius and termination method in the kit instructions. Support the outer cable, protect it from heat and sharp edges, and leave access for inspection. Make sure trim, a seat movement or later wiring cannot trap it.
Do not test by discharging the bottle. Use the maker’s safe commissioning procedure.
The restraints and service label need equal attention
Motorsport UK requires protected containers, metal restraints and anti-torpedo tabs. Keep the label visible after installation. Use the manufacturer or appointed agent for scheduled service, then re-check handle travel and cable security when the bottle returns.
