Renault is the make where the Clio does most of the talking. Most customers who come to us for a Renault boss kit are Clio owners, and there is a reason: the Clio ran through five distinct generations from 1990 to the present and the hub changed twice along the way. Why you need a B-G or MOMO boss kit
An aftermarket wheel will not bolt onto a Renault column on its own. The boss kit centres the wheel on the column, sets the correct offset to clear the stalk switchgear and carries the horn circuit through a contact plate in the hub body.
Every Renault column has its own spline count and shaft diameter. A hub from another make will not engage correctly even if it looks close. The boss kits listed here are machined to the exact specification of the Renault column they fit.
Most of the Renault range is collapsible. A collapsible hub compresses under a heavy impact, which is what the regulations require for road use and most club racing classes. Non-collapsible hubs remain available for some older categories where the rules permit them.
The Clio changed hub three times. MK7213 covers the Clio I from 1990 to 1998 and the Twingo up to 1998. MK7217R covers the Clio II from 1998 to 2001 only. From 2001 onward, the Clio II, III, IV and V all use MK7218R, alongside the Megane III, the Espace from 1996, the Twingo from 2014 and several other models. If you are not sure which generation you have, the manufacture year on your V5C will tell you.
Steering wheel installation explained
So how does a Sparco wheel end up on a MOMO hub? Because nearly every aftermarket motorsport wheel is drilled to the same bolt pattern: six bolts on a 70mm circle. The hub carries that pattern on its top face and the wheel bolts straight on, regardless of the brand on the horn button.
The boss kit bolts to the column at the bottom and presents that 70mm pattern on top. Torque it to the spec in the product sheet, feed the horn wire through the column onto the contact tab, then the wheel goes on last. The retaining ring or nut holds the horn button in place. That is the full sequence.

A quick release sits between the boss kit and the wheel and lets you pull the wheel off the column in a second. On a Renault, that also makes theft harder and gives the installation a cleaner look. All B-G quick release kits bolt straight to the standard 6 × 70mm hub with no modification required.
Getting the Clio generation right is the key step in any Renault boss kit order. The Clio I, the Clio II from 1998 to 2001, and the Clio II from 2001 onward each take a different hub. Different year, different part. Use the year from your V5C and the chart at the top of this page to confirm which one you need.

Pair your boss kit with a high performance steering wheel
Once the hub is sorted the wheel is entirely your choice. For a Clio on track, many customers go for a smaller diameter, 320 to 330mm, because the stock wheel is already 370mm and a smaller rim gives more room. For road use, 350mm is the most common choice. Every wheel we sell is drilled 6 x 70mm, so any of them will bolt to any of the hubs above. The only real decision is diameter and dish, which changes how heavy the steering feels and how close the rim sits to your chest.
Final thoughts
Renault is a more complex make than it first appears. The Clio alone has three different boss kits across five generations and the split at 2001 is not always obvious from the model name.
