Sparco CRW WP Winter Karting Gloves For Cold UK Weather

Karting glove guide

Anyone who has karted in the UK between November and March knows the problem. After a few laps in the cold and wet, a normal kart glove is soaked through, your fingers go numb and you lose the feel of the wheel.

The Sparco CRW WP is Sparco's answer: a neoprene winter kart glove built to keep hands warm and hold the wheel in the wet. Here is what it does well, the one important limit on where you can use it, and the approved alternatives if your championship needs them.

  • The Sparco CRW WP is a neoprene winter and wet-weather kart glove
  • Silicone grip covers the palm and fingers for a wet wheel
  • It is not CIK or FIA approved
  • Right for club karting, practice and cold test days
  • Sizes XXS to XL in black, following normal Sparco glove sizing

Why winter karting is hard on hands

A kart gives you no shelter. Your hands sit in the wind for the whole session, and in the rain they are also soaked by spray from the front wheels. A standard kart glove is made to be thin for feel, so it does little to keep the cold out once it is wet.

Cold hands grip less well and react more slowly, and that affects how precisely you can drive. That applies to young drivers as much as adults.

What the CRW WP is. The shell is thermally sealed neoprene with a stretch panel, which resists water and holds warmth while leaving enough dexterity to feel the wheel. A silicone grip pattern covers the palm and fingers, so it holds a wet rim where an uncoated glove would slip.

The fingers are pre-curved to follow your natural grip, so the glove does not fight you when you hold the wheel, and an elasticated wrist closes the cuff to stop water running in. It comes in black, in sizes XXS to XL.

The important limit: it is not approved

The CRW WP is not CIK or FIA rated. That means it is not valid in championships that require approved gloves. It is the right glove for club karting that does not ask for approval, practice sessions, testing and arrive-and-drive days in poor weather.

If your series does require approved gloves, look at a wet-weather glove homologated to FIA 8877-2022, the current FIA karting glove standard. The Sparco K-Arrow+ WP has a waterproof membrane and silicone grip, and the Alpinestars Tempest V3 has a three-layer waterproof construction with a fleece lining. The OMP Rain-K is another neoprene option, and like the CRW WP it is not approved.

Sizing and how to use them

The CRW WP follows normal Sparco glove sizing, so if you already know your Sparco size you can order the same. If not, measure around the knuckles of your hand, not including the thumb, and send us the measurement if you are unsure. Neoprene should be snug; a loose winter glove lets water in and moves on the wheel.

Garreth’s advice is to keep a pair in the kart bag alongside your normal gloves, and swap to them for cold mornings and wet sessions. Our wet weather gloves overview compares more options, and the guide to the best karting gloves covers dry-weather gloves too.

No. They are not CIK or FIA rated, so they cannot be used where approved gloves are required.

In our range the Sparco K-Arrow+ WP and the Alpinestars Tempest V3 are homologated to FIA 8877-2022.
