What is new for 2022
Race boots are compulsory in most forms of motorsport. They have a flame resistant lining to protect your feet in a fire, and a thin sole that lets you feel the pedals.
For 2022 we have added the new boots from the bigger racewear brands, and each existing listing now has its current approval, fuller information and an up to date price. Bundle items are on the listings, so boots can go in the basket alongside a matching suit and gloves.
The three boots in the showroom
Alpinestars SP V2. Alpinestars’ entry level race boot, with a suede upper and a soft knitted Nomex section around the Achilles for comfort. Double layer panels on the sides add protection, and a twin layer footbed sits over a thin rubber sole for pedal feel and grip. It laces up in the traditional way and carries the current FIA homologation.
OMP First. The new version of OMP’s First-S boot. It is full suede with a rubber sole, and fastens with laces and a Velcro strap across the top.
Sparco Slalom. A suede upper with Sparco embroidery and a leather insole. The slim rubber sole resists oil and fuel, and is anti-slip and anti-static.
The fastening is one of the easiest ways to tell them apart. The Alpinestars and Sparco lace up, while the OMP First adds a Velcro strap across the ankle.
Garreth's advice is to try boots on with the socks you race in, and sit down and press a pedal if you can. A race boot should be snug without pinching.

Choosing race boots
Check the approval your championship asks for first; the label is inside the boot. After that it comes down to fit, sole thickness and fastening. Sizes do not always line up between brands, so it pays to try before you buy.
Our guide to choosing FIA race boots goes into approvals, sizing and pedal feel in more detail.
