What the Superleggera OPT is
The upper is a printed flame retardant fabric with clear silicone reinforcement where the boot takes the most wear. Printing the design and logos, instead of stitching on panels, keeps the weight down.
Inside there is no conventional tongue. Sparco use an elasticated Jacquard sock that the foot slides into, which gives a closer fit and is more comfortable over a long day. External laces then pull the boot in snug around the foot.

The carbon sole and heel spoiler
The sole is where the Superleggera stands out. It combines real carbon with rubber, which keeps it light and flexible, and it uses different tread patterns in different areas for grip on the pedals.
At the back there is an extended heel section Sparco call the spoiler. It supports the heel while you drive, which helps keep your foot planted and steady on the pedals, especially when you are heel and toeing or working the brake hard.
The boot is approved to FIA 8856-2018, the current racewear standard, and to SFI 3.3/5. It comes in four colourways, black and red, black and white, white and black, and black and fluro yellow, in sizes UK 4 to UK 13.

Where it sits in the Sparco boot range
The Slalom+ is the entry point, based on the long running Slalom. It comes in full suede or suede with fabric inserts for breathability, has scuff resistant heels and toes, a breathable fire retardant lining and an asymmetric lace closure.
The Skid and Skid Plus add abrasion resistant inserts on the sides and heel, an overlapping tongue and Kevlar lace loops. The Skid Plus has a shock absorbing, anti vibration sole, where the Skid has a thin rubber sole with grip texture.
The X-Light Plus mixes kangaroo leather with synthetic leather and was the first Sparco boot to drop the tongue for an internal sock. The Superleggera takes that idea further with its printed upper and carbon sole.
Garreth’s advice is to choose by how you drive as much as by budget: a thin, flexible sole gives the most pedal feel. Our guide on how to choose FIA race boots covers approvals and sizing.
