The new Tech 1-KX V3
The Tech 1-KX has been one of the most popular Alpinestars kart boots, and the V3 is the new version for 2024. The big change is the approval: the V3 is built to FIA 8877-2022, the FIA standard for karting clothing.
The rest of the recipe is familiar. The upper is lightweight PU and textile, with fewer seams to cut down pressure points. The heel and insole are one piece, which holds the heel down in the boot, and the collar is padded with PU foam. Underneath is a thin rubber sole, derived from the boots Alpinestars make for Formula 1, which gives grip on the pedals and lets you feel what your feet are doing.
The V3 fastens with asymmetric laces and an adjustable ankle strap, and the heel and toe are reinforced.
Two ways Alpinestars get the fit right
Across the range Alpinestars use two different approaches to fastening. The Tech 1-KZ V2, their flagship kart boot, has a dual ankle strap with hidden lacing across the instep, so the boot closes securely without laces on show. The Tech 1-KX boots use a lace closure that wraps the boot closely round the foot for support and control.
The Tech 1-KZ V2 is made with flat knitting, which lets the upper shape itself to the foot. Laser cut vents and textile side panels let air in and out, which helps on a hot race day.
Which suits you comes down to foot shape and how you like a boot to close. Garreth’s advice with any kart boot is to go snug: the heel should not lift when you press the pedal.

The rest of the 2024 range
Alongside the new boot, several of the existing Alpinestars kart boots have new colours for 2024, and every listing on our site now shows the current colours and sizes.
These are kart boots. They are ideal for karting, and they suit fast road and track day driving where no approval is needed, but they are not approved to FIA 8856-2018, the standard car racing asks for. If you also race a car, you will need race boots for that. Our answer on FIA and karting kit explains the difference between the two standards.
