HOCOTEX and the 2-layer brief
I’m Cameron. The Prime is FIA 8856-2018 on all three colourways. The question is what the HOCOTEX construction buys you over a conventional 3-layer suit at a similar price, and whether that matters for your use.
The 2-layer approach works by putting the thermal engineering into the geometry of the inner lining. A conventional 3-layer suit spreads that work across three separate layers of fabric, which adds weight and stiffness in proportion. The Prime is lighter and moves more freely than a 3-layer suit at the same approval tier. If you spend a session in one and then go back to a conventional 3-layer, the difference is noticeable.
The argument against is price. The Prime is £1,566.60 inc VAT for the suit alone. The OMP One S, which is a 3-layer Super Light suit and a genuine FIA 8856-2018 competitor, sits at £1,116. The £450 difference is real. If you have no specific complaint about your current suit’s weight or compressibility, start with the OMP One S guide and work across from there.
What HOCOTEX means for the suit
HOCOTEX is Sparco’s name for an inner lining built on a honeycomb geometry. The small air pockets in the structure slow thermal transfer from outside to the driver without adding the weight of a woven thermal layer. The result is a suit that is thinner and lighter than a conventional 3-layer construction while meeting the same FIA 8856-2018 thermal standard. Sparco describe the Prime as a 2-layer suit; the two layers are the outer fabric and the HOCOTEX inner.
Where the Prime sits in the Sparco range
The Prime is the HOCOTEX construction entry point in the Sparco lineup. The Superleggera, which is scheduled to have its own set guide on this site, sits above it and applies a higher-specification version of the same weight-reduction approach. If you are coming from a conventional 3-layer suit and want to try the HOCOTEX brief without going straight to the Superleggera price, the Prime is the correct starting point.
Which Prime boot to pick
The Prime boot family has six products across several generations: the Evo, Extreme, Prime-T (two versions), and Prime R (two versions). The Prime Evo (the boots in this guide) is the current everyday-circuit boot. Five colourways, EU 36 to EU 48, and the widest colour range in the family. The Prime Extreme is built for specific series requirements with a tighter ankle profile. The Prime-T variants are touring car specific with a higher cut. For a driver who races circuit without a specific series restriction, the Prime Evo is the correct choice.

The suit
The Sparco Prime Race Suit is FIA 8856-2018. HOCOTEX 2-layer construction with stretch panels at the joints and pre-curved sleeves. Three colourways: Black, White, Black & Yellow. Sizes 48 to 60 in seven steps.
The Black colourway is a black suit with red accent stripes along the sides and shoulders. These are a visual feature of the suit, not a colourway variant: every Black Prime has the red accents. There is no all-black version without them.
The outer fabric on the Prime uses Sparco’s fireproof shell over the HOCOTEX inner. The combination passes the FIA 8856-2018 thermal resistance test at a lower total weight than the equivalent 3-layer construction. For drivers who train in the suit or race in summer heat, that is a practical difference.

The Sparco Prime Evo Race Boots carry FIA 8856-2018 across all five colourways: Black, White, Red, Grey, Navy Blue. UK 3.5 to UK 13 (EU 36 to EU 48).
The Prime Evo boot uses a low-profile sole with a thin leather upper. The sole construction is designed for pedal feel. The boot fits close to the ankle without restricting movement: no high collar, which lets the suit leg sit over it naturally.
One practical note on the boot range: the Prime boot family includes the Extreme, Prime-T, and Prime R variants alongside the Evo. Each is a different product for a different brief. The Prime Evo is the everyday circuit boot and the one in this set. If your series specifies a different variant or you have a series-specific requirement, confirm the product code before ordering.
The gloves
The Sparco Tide+ Race Gloves (1046419) carry FIA 8856-2018. Four colourways: Black & White, White & Black, Red & Black, Black & Fluro Yellow. XS to XXL.

No Red & Black or matched-accent option exists for the Black suit (red accents) in the Tide+ range. The Black & White gloves read cleanly against the suit. For the Black & Yellow suit, the Black & Fluro Yellow gloves carry the accent direction even though the fluro yellow is a different tone to the suit’s accent colour.

What else sits at this money
The OMP One S at £1,116 inc VAT is the most direct suit comparison. It is a 3-layer Super Light FIA 8856-2018 suit at a lower price point. The construction philosophy is different from HOCOTEX: the One S uses lighter fabric compounds across three layers. What I’d actually buy
The Prime makes sense for a driver who has been in a conventional 3-layer suit and found the weight or stiffness specifically limiting. If that’s not the problem you are solving, the OMP One S at £1,116 does the same job at a lower price. If it is the problem, the HOCOTEX approach is a genuine fix.
On colourways: White gives you the cleanest three-piece set because the boots and gloves match directly. Black is versatile but the Red accents on the suit narrow your glove options. Black & Yellow is the distinctive choice; accept that the boot and suit yellow tones are different shades and it still reads well with the Black & Fluro Yellow gloves.
Final thoughts
The Prime Evo boots are good at their price. The low-profile sole and close fit work well for a driver who wants to feel the pedal. At £393.60 inc VAT with FIA 8856-2018 and a full size run from EU 36 to EU 48, there is not much to argue with.
