The Best Coilovers For Your Nissan 350Z

Suspension guide

The 350Z is one of the cars where the arch gap bothers people as much as the damping. The body sits higher than it looks from the side, and the standard suspension does not do the shape any favours.

Cameron's first question when someone brings one in is whether they have looked at the TEIN kits. TEIN covers the 350Z and the Infiniti G35 Coupe on the same listing, which tells you they know the platform. Garreth's question is what the car is for, because the answer runs from around four hundred pounds for Eibach springs to nearly seven thousand for a MOTON 3-Way.

Below is what we would fit at each level, cheapest first.

  • Six brands list 350Z suspension with us: Eibach, TEIN, BC Racing, AST, MOTON and H&R
  • TEIN FLEX Z is the cheapest coilover for the car, and also covers the Infiniti G35 Coupe
  • BC Racing lists the 350Z in two rear configurations: factory-style and True Rear Coilover
  • BC Racing goes only to ER for the Z33: there is no ZR on our listings for this car
  • MOTON starts at 2-Way for the 350Z; there is no MOTON 1-Way Clubracer for this car
A Nissan 350Z slammed on coilovers in a pit lane. Dark aftermarket wheels, open hub with wheel nuts showing, no centre cap.
A 350Z sat down on coilovers. The rear haunches make the arch gap obvious when the car is sitting right.

Coupe and roadster share every kit; BC Racing has two rear layouts

The 350Z coupe and roadster share the same kits at every level from AST, MOTON, TEIN and Eibach. The one split that matters for BC Racing buyers is the rear layout.

BC Racing listingRear layoutWho it suits
BCR-D-17 (standard)Factory-style rear, spring off the damperRoad car, or any build where the rear spring rate is not changing
BCR-D-107 (True Rear Coilover)Spring on the damper at every cornerTrack car where you want to adjust the rear rate or set corner weights

From the vehicle tables on our listings. Both cover the 350Z coupe and roadster, 2003 to 2009.

Cameron’s rule for the rear is straightforward: keep the factory layout for a road car. Go True Rear Coilover when you need to change the rear spring rate independently or set corner weights on a track car.

Garreth also notes two things that catch people out on the Z33: BC Racing only goes to ER on our listings, so there is no ZR for this car, and MOTON does not list a 1-Way Clubracer. If you want separate rebound and compression without MOTON money, BC ER is the route.

Prices read from the site on the day this guide was built, inc VAT. The product cards below show prices before VAT, as the rest of the site does; the Inc/Exc VAT switch changes them.

1. Eibach Pro-Kit: lower the 350Z without a coilover

If the car only needs to sit lower and the dampers are still fresh, the Eibach Pro-Kit is the cheapest route down. It covers both the coupe and the roadster and is the only spring-only option we list for the Z33.

Garreth’s note: on a 350Z that is fifteen-plus years old it is worth asking the question about the dampers before fitting springs. A worn damper on a lowered car rides worse than the standard setup.

  • Price. £412 inc VAT
  • Adjustment. None, a fixed drop
  • In the box. Lowering springs, use your dampers
  • Buy it if. The dampers are fresh and you only want the car sitting lower

2. TEIN FLEX Z or BC Racing BR: the entry coilover

TEIN FLEX Z is the cheapest coilover for the 350Z. It is full-length adjustable, so the ride height changes without touching stroke or preload, with 16 damping positions. The same listing covers the Infiniti G35 Coupe on the Z platform.

BC Racing BR (BCR-D-107 or BCR-D-17) is a fraction more, with 30 click damping on rubber top mounts, and the same listing takes you to ER later. Cameron would start with TEIN FLEX Z for the price and the setup data. Garreth would ask which BC rear layout the car needs first, then decide.

  • Price. £996 inc VAT
  • Adjustment. Full-length height, 16 damping positions
  • In the box. Coilovers, springs, upper mounts per car
  • Buy it if. You want the car sitting right with a damping adjustment, on a sensible starting budget

3. TEIN MONO SPORT or AST 5100 Street: the road car step up

TEIN MONO SPORT is the monotube version of the FLEX Z: same full-length adjustable design, 16 damping positions with TEIN’s ADVANCE M.S.V. valving for a wider range between soft and firm. Cameron thinks MONO SPORT earns its extra cost over FLEX Z: the gain in damper quality is proportionate.

If you want an AST at this level, the 5100 Street (ACS-N2004S) is a 12-click rebound inverted monotube on your original top mounts. The Street Performance (ACT-N2004S) adds camber-adjustable front mounts, which a lowered 350Z generally wants. Garreth would go straight to Street Performance if the car is sitting lower than factory. If you need help choosing between TEIN MONO SPORT and AST Street, drop us an email or click to open a chat and we will talk it through.

  • Price. £1,584 inc VAT
  • Adjustment. Full-length height, 16 positions with ADVANCE M.S.V.
  • In the box. Monotube coilovers, springs, upper mounts per car
  • Buy it if. The car is driven properly on the road and you want a monotube with setup data

4. AST 5100 Clubracing: the trackday 350Z

The Clubracing is a full coilover at every corner, with camber-adjustable front and solid rear top mounts and 12 clicks of rebound. That combination is what a trackday car needs: the rear spring rate under your control, camber sorted at the front, and enough rebound range to work between sessions.

MOTON does not list a 1-Way for the Z33, so the AST Clubracing is the only 1-way option at this level. For a 350Z that goes on track regularly, this is where Garreth would start. The kit is rebuildable through the AST UK service network.

  • Price. £3,144 inc VAT
  • Adjustment. Height, 12 click rebound
  • In the box. Coilover rear, camber front and solid rear top mounts
  • Buy it if. The car does regular trackdays and you want the rear rate and camber in your hands

5. Two way: BC Racing ER, AST 5200 or MOTON 2-Way

The BC Racing ER is the same listing as the BR, with a second dial and external reservoirs: rebound and compression adjust separately. It costs a fraction of the AST 5200 or MOTON 2-Way. Cameron’s view is that ER is the cheapest way onto a two-dial setup on a 350Z, and a useful way to understand what compression adjustment does before spending serious money.

Garreth would go AST or MOTON for a car that races. The AST 5200 (RIV-N2004S) comes with remote reservoirs and custom spring rates on request. The MOTON 2-Way adds a blow-off valve in the reservoir for kerbs and rough surfaces. Both are built to the car and have a UK rebuild centre. They disagree on ER: Cameron thinks it is the best value on the page, Garreth thinks a race car is worth the proper kit.

  • Price. £1,849 inc VAT, ER
  • Adjustment. Height, rebound and compression separately
  • In the box. Coilovers with external reservoirs and springs
  • Buy it if. You want rebound and compression separately, and your budget is nearer two thousand than five

6. Three way: AST 5300 or MOTON 3-Way

The top rung splits compression into low and high speed. BC Racing does not offer ZR for the Z33 on our listings, so the two options here are AST and MOTON. The AST 5300 (RAC-N2004S) gives you 12 click rebound plus low and high speed compression adjustment. The MOTON 3-Way splits compression into 15 high speed and 6 low speed positions with 15 clicks of rebound; its lineage is touring car racing.

Buy one when somebody is going to write the settings down.

  • Price. £5,040 inc VAT
  • Adjustment. Height, rebound, low and high speed compression
  • In the box. Springs, reservoirs, top mounts where applicable
  • Buy it if. It is a race car, or a trackday car with a proper setup programme

Anti-roll bars to go with them

Anti-roll bars change the balance in corners; coilovers change how the car sits and controls body movement over bumps. H&R list uprated bars for the 350Z in one kit covering both the coupe and the roadster.

Before you order

  • Coupe or roadster. Both are covered by all kits we list; send us the year and body style anyway
  • BC Racing rear layout. BCR-D-17 for a factory-style rear, BCR-D-107 for a True Rear Coilover
  • TEIN kits and the G35. TEIN FLEX Z and MONO SPORT also list the Infiniti G35 Coupe: confirm the year and spec if the car is an import
  • Alignment. Any change of ride height changes the geometry; book it as part of the job

Common questions

TEIN FLEX Z is the cheapest coilover for the car, with full-length height adjustment and 16 damping positions. BC Racing BR is a fraction more and adds 30 click damping with the option to step up to ER later on the same listing.

BC Racing lists two: BCR-D-17 for a factory-style rear, and BCR-D-107 for the True Rear Coilover. Both cover the coupe and roadster. For a road car, BCR-D-17 is the one; for a track car where you want to adjust the rear rate or set corner weights, BCR-D-107.

No. BC Racing only goes to ER for the Z33 on our listings, and there is no ZR for this car. The three-way options are the AST 5300 and the MOTON 3-Way.

No. MOTON lists the Z33 from 2-Way upwards only. The one-way trackday option is the AST 5100 Clubracing.

Yes, if the car is going to sit lower than factory. The AST 5100 Street Performance and Clubracing both include camber-adjustable front top mounts. The Street kit and TEIN kits use the original mounts, so you would need separate camber plates if the setup needs them.

What we would fit

For a road 350Z, Cameron would fit the TEIN MONO SPORT. TEIN covers this platform properly and the setup data comes with the kit; it handles a trackday too if the car ends up on circuit.

Garreth’s pick for a road car that gets used is the AST 5100 Street Performance: the better damper quality, camber-adjustable mounts included, and a kit that can be rebuilt. For a car going racing, it is MOTON. They agree on one thing: the BC ER is the honest entry point to two-dial adjustment, and Cameron thinks it is the best value on the page. Garreth would spend the extra on AST or MOTON for a car with a proper setup programme.

Our AST guide and MOTON guide go deeper on those ranges, and the BC Racing Nissan guide covers every BC fitment for the brand.
