The British F3 International and GT Series made a welcome return to Silverstone at the weekend and we went along to see what it was all about!
For 61 years British Formula 3 has been producing the Grand Prix stars of the future. Champions like Jackie Stewart, Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna have gone from British F3 on to Grand Prix greatness. Now the 2009/10 champions, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne, have graduated, and this season’s crop of talent looks no less exciting….
As stated by Silverstone’s website: “With glamorous supercars racing bumper-to-bumper, ground-shaking noise, breathtaking speeds and all the drama of pit stops and driver changeovers, the British GT Championship offers an incredible motorsport experience.”
We had to agree, the pedigree of cars and drivers was second to none. We attended on the Saturday and arrived to beautiful weather making it the perfect day out. After a little walk from the car park we jumped straight into the thick of it along the paddock straight to see what cars were being worked on. With a range of Single Seater and VW CUP cars on display before and during their races we had a great chance to look around all the sport cars and really get involved.
Silverstone has more than enough grand stands around the best corners and straights to ensure fantastic views. We changed stands each race, practice and qualifying to take as many photos as we could and get a real feel for the event. Personally the GT cars were the highlight of the day, the raw power, the intense noise and the blistering performance was just incredible. Our favourites were the BMW Z4, Aston Martin 007 and Merc SLR which provided the most fun for the spectators.
A great day out and I really have nothing to criticise. I would strongly recommend this event for all Motorsport fans.
