What a boss kit does
An aftermarket steering wheel will not bolt straight onto a car’s steering column. The boss kit, or hub, sits between the two. One side matches the splines on the column, and the other side takes the bolt pattern of the wheel. That is why each MOMO hub is made for a particular car, and why the car is named in the title of every listing.
If the car has a driver airbag, it goes when the standard wheel comes off, so it is worth reading up before you swap. Our guide on whether aftermarket steering wheels are road legal covers the points to think about.
The MOMO hubs in the sale
MOMO was the first company to make and sell a collapsible hub for aftermarket steering wheels, back in the early 1970s. A collapsible hub is designed to deform in a controlled way in a heavy impact, where a rigid hub would not. MOMO also makes hubs for a very long list of cars, which is why their hubs make up most of our range.
The hubs in the sale cover a real mix of cars, from classics such as the Mk1 Ford Escort and the Toyota MR2 to newer hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen Golf Mk5. These are some of the popular ones, and there are more discounted kits on the website. Search for your car to see whether it is one of them.
The B-G Racing quick release bosses
We also have two B-G Racing quick release bosses in the showroom, and both are in the sale at the same minimum of 20% off. A quick release sits between the hub and the wheel and lets you take the wheel off the column in seconds, which makes getting in and out of a car with a bucket seat and harness far easier.
They are made from lightweight aluminium and hard wearing steel. They bring the wheel roughly 50mm closer to the driver, which is worth knowing if you already sit close to the wheel.

The two versions differ in what they are for. The standard B-G Racing quick release is aimed at motorsport, takes wheels with a 6x70mm bolt pattern, and has a master spline so the wheel goes back on straight every time. The universal version is aimed at road cars, takes both 6x70mm and 6x74mm bolt patterns, and locks with a push-pin mechanism.
Garreth’s advice is to check the bolt pattern on the back of your wheel before you order anything. Our guide to steering wheel dish is useful too, because a deeper wheel and a quick release both bring the rim closer to you.
How much is off the boss kits in the sale?
Every boss kit we hold in the showroom is at least 20% off, with the discount already applied on the website.
Why is a MOMO boss kit made for one car?
The hub has to match the splines on that car’s steering column on one side and the wheel’s bolt pattern on the other.
What is a collapsible hub?
A hub designed to deform in a controlled way in a heavy impact. MOMO was the first to make one for aftermarket wheels.
How much closer does a B-G Racing quick release bring the wheel?
Roughly 50mm closer to the driver.
If your car is on the list, a showroom hub at 20% or more off is the easy way into a new wheel.
