What is on this page
The KMX-5 V3
The KMX-5 has been reworked for 2024 and now carries FIA 8877-2022 Grade 1 approval. The outer shell is a polyester and polyamide blend for abrasion resistance, with a soft knit lining inside.
Airflow is the focus. There are laser cut perforations across the chest and back and open weave mesh on the torso sides, crotch and underarms. The arms and legs are pre-curved so the material does not bunch when you are sat in the kart.

The KMX-9 V3 and the Graphic version
The KMX-9 V3 is the lower cost suit in the range and a sensible first suit for a new karter. It is also approved to FIA 8877-2022 Grade 1, with a two layer build, a moisture wicking lining, mesh panels for ventilation, and stretch panels at the lower back and shoulders so it moves with you in the seat.
There is a Graphic version of the KMX-9 V3 too, which comes in seven designs if you want something bolder than a plain colour.
What Grade 1 means
FIA 8877-2022 replaces the older CIK-FIA suit approvals and has two grades. Grade 1 is the baseline level of protection and takes over from the old Level 2. Grade 2 is the higher level. The FIA plans to make the new standard compulsory at its international events from 1 January 2025, while Motorsport UK has said it will accept both old and new suits at national level for some years.
Garreth’s advice is to check what your own championship asks for before buying. Our kart suit standards guide goes through what each type of event requires.
The Alpinestars Indoor suit
The Indoor suit is not a racing suit and carries no FIA approval. It is a durable single layer twill overall with an elasticated waist, a Velcro belt strap and pre-curved arms, made for indoor and leisure karting and for race and rally mechanics. We have it in black, red and blue, sizes XS to XXL.
