New Sparco Prime Extreme FIA Racing Boot For 2024

Sparco have released a new FIA race boot, the Prime Extreme. It is a mid height, lace up boot for all kinds of motorsport, and it is built around two things: a printed, ultralight fabric upper and a flexible carbon insole for pedal feel.
It is quite different from the leather and suede boots in the rest of the Sparco range, so below we cover what it is, and where it sits next to the Superleggera, X-Light Plus and the entry level boots.

What the Prime Extreme is
The upper is made from an ultralight fabric that Sparco print the design and logos straight onto. It is very breathable, which keeps your feet cooler and drier over a long session, and a layer of clear silicone reinforces it where the boot takes the most wear.
Inside there is a flexible carbon insole. It is there for pedal feel, so you can sense what the pedals are doing through your feet. Underneath is a rubber sole that resists oil and fuel, with a spoiler at the heel for support.
The boot is approved to FIA 8856-2018, the current standard for racewear, and to SFI 3.3/5. It laces up conventionally and sits at mid height on the ankle.
How it compares with the Sparco range
The closest boot in the range is the Superleggera OPT, which also uses a printed fabric upper with silicone reinforcement, but pairs it with a carbon and rubber sole and an internal sock. The X-Light Plus takes a more traditional route, with kangaroo and synthetic leather and an internal sock in place of a tongue.
At the entry level, the Slalom+ comes in full suede or suede with fabric inserts, with scuff resistant heels and toes and a breathable fire retardant lining. The Skid and Skid Plus add abrasion resistant inserts and Kevlar lace loops, and the Skid Plus has a shock absorbing sole. All of them carry FIA 8856-2018.

Who it suits
The Prime Extreme is for drivers who want a very light, flexible boot with plenty of pedal feel and are happy to trade some of the support and wear resistance of a leather boot for it. A light fabric upper is generally less hard wearing than leather if you spend a lot of time walking round the paddock in it.
