New Sparco RJ Carbon Helmet For 2023
Helmet news, February 2023
The new Sparco RJ Carbon helmet is live on our website for the first time, ready for the 2023 season. It is the carbon fibre version of the standard Sparco RJ, so it is lighter and stronger, and it replaces the Sky RJ-7 Carbon with a revised design and the latest approvals.
It is very close to the Sparco RJ-i Carbon, but it comes without the intercom. Here is what it is, how it fits into the Sparco carbon range, and where the Club X1 Carbon track day helmet sits alongside it.
- New for 2023: the Sparco RJ Carbon open face helmet
- Replaces the Sparco Sky RJ-7 Carbon
- Approved to FIA 8859-2015 and Snell SA2020
- Pre-preg carbon fibre shell reinforced with carbon-Kevlar
- HANS posts fitted, no intercom (the RJ-i Carbon has one)
- Sizes XS to XL, including an ML

What the RJ Carbon is
The RJ Carbon is an open face helmet with a pre-preg carbon fibre shell, reinforced with layers of carbon-Kevlar. It is approved to FIA 8859-2015 and to Snell SA2020, and it comes with HANS posts already fitted.
Sparco has given it a new breathable fireproof lining, a new peak shaped for better sun protection, and a shell and polystyrene liner made in two sizes, with vents for airflow. The lining is removable, so it can be washed.

It comes in sizes XS to XL, with an ML size between M and L to help get the fit right. Measure around your head just above the eyebrows, and Garreth’s advice is to call us if you sit between two sizes, because a helmet that moves is no use to anyone.
RJ, RJ Carbon or RJ-i Carbon
The standard RJ has a fibreglass shell reinforced with carbon-Kevlar, a white fibreglass peak, and linings that can be removed for washing or repositioning. There is room to fit a flexible or fixed microphone boom later if you need one.
The RJ Carbon moves to a carbon fibre shell for less weight. The RJ-i Carbon is the same idea again, but with an intercom system built in, which makes it the one to look at for rallying with a co-driver. If you race on your own, the RJ Carbon gives you the carbon shell without paying for comms you will not use.

The Club X1 Carbon, for track days
Our Sparco Club X1 Carbon full face helmets are back in stock, with sizes S, M, L and XL in the showroom to try on, and XS and XXL online on short lead times. The listing now has a silver mirror visor option too.
It is a different kind of helmet from the RJ Carbon. The Club X1 Carbon has a shell made from Sparco’s Advanced Thermo Material with a carbon finish, and vents at the chin, brow and top. It is ECE approved, not FIA approved, so it is for track days and fast road use, not FIA homologated events. There is also a standard Club X1 in black or white.
Our Sparco helmet range for 2023
We have updated all our Sparco helmet listings with the current FIA approvals, sizes and colour options. The range covers open and closed face helmets for everything from track days to FIA events, including full face helmets such as the Air Pro RF-5W and the Prime RF-10W Supercarbon.
Each Sparco helmet has suitable bundle items at the checkout, such as HANS devices and balaclavas. Our explainer on FIA and Snell helmet standards sets out what each approval means for your event.
