The Sparco Club X1 Carbon (SPA003319-1) is a full-face helmet for track days and karting, built from Sparco’s Advanced Thermo Material (ATM) composite shell with a carbon-effect finish. The shell is ATM, not woven carbon fibre; the carbon appearance is a finish on the composite material. The weight and structural properties come from the ATM construction.

ECE approval covers track day and club event use. This is not a helmet for events that specify a motorsport-specific standard such as Snell SA or FIA 8860. If the event accepts ECE-approved helmets, this works. If it requires a fire-resistant interior or a higher energy absorption standard, it does not.

Ventilation runs through chin, brow, and top vents, which gives a reasonable level of airflow for track day pace. Sizes run from XS (54-55cm) to XXL (64-65cm).

One option in the listings is the Club X1 Silver Mirror visor, which can be added at the point of ordering if you prefer the tinted look over the standard clear shield.

If you’re comparing this to the Sparco X-Pro (003378) on the same site, the main differences are that the X-Pro has a flip-up visor mechanism and carries ECE 22-06 approval, while the Club X1 Carbon is a fixed-visor design at a higher price point with the composite carbon-effect shell. For most track day use, both do the job; the flip-up visor is worth paying for if you’re also using the helmet in the paddock and paddock in and out of the car. Part number SPA003319-1.

Track day helmet size guide

Track day helmets are sized model by model, and every size option on the site carries the head measurement inside the name. Measure once, then pick the option whose centimetre range contains your number. The letter on its own will mislead you.

Read the number, not the letterA Sparco track day L is a 60 cm head on the X-Pro, a 58 to 59 cm head on the Gulf and Martini X-Pro, and a 60 to 61 cm head on the Club X1. Same brand, same letter, three different heads.

Measure the head

1One inch above the eyebrowsThen round the widest part at the back. Soft tape, level all the way round.
2Take the largest readingMeasure three or four times and use the biggest number.

A dash means that range has no size at that measurement. The Sparco X-Pro and J-Pro both skip 59 cm, so if you measure 59 you are choosing between an M that may be tight and an L that may be loose. Ring us on that one, or look at the Gulf and Martini X-Pro or the Club X1, which both cover it.

What ECE means for you

Everything in this category is homologated to ECE 22-06 or the older ECE 22.05, which is the European road motorcycle standard rather than a motorsport one. That is what makes these helmets good value for track days, sprints and open pit lane sessions, and it is why they cover a wider size range and cost less than an FIA helmet.

It also means most circuit championships will not accept them, because those require an FIA 8859 or 8860 helmet, or a Snell SA. If you are moving from track days into competition, check your regulations before you buy, and have a look at our motorsport helmet range instead. If you are not sure which side of that line you are on, ring us and we will tell you straight.

Open face or full face

An open face sits differently because there is no chin bar pulling the shell forward, and it is built on a separate set of shells, so do not assume your full face size carries across. The open face options here also suit a road car with a roll cage where getting a full face on and off through a cage bar is awkward.

How it should fit

Snug enough that it is slightly awkward to pull on, with the cheek pads pushing your cheeks up. With the strap done up you should not be able to rotate the helmet forwards off your head. The lining beds in over the first few sessions, so a helmet that is merely comfortable out of the box will be loose by the end of the season.
