Karting news, January 2024
A pair of OMP KS-3 kart boots and a set of OMP KS-2R karting gloves have just arrived, and both are now on display in the showroom to look at and try on. The boots are a UK 10.5 (EU 45) and the gloves are a medium, and both are ready to go out straight away or to collect.
They make a good pair. The boots and gloves share the same black, white and grey look, and both sit at the entry level of OMP's karting range.

The OMP KS-3 kart boots
The KS-3 is a mid cut kart boot in suede, with mesh panels through the upper to let the foot breathe. The sole is built for grip and feel on the pedals, so your foot is less likely to slip off in the middle of a corner.
There are flexible inserts at the back of the boot for comfort, and it laces up conventionally, with a strap across the top on this pair. Ours came with a bag of coloured spare laces and a shoe bag. It is an entry level boot, suitable for cadets and senior drivers, and it comes in a good range of colours and sizes.

The OMP KS-2R karting gloves
The KS-2R has its seams on the outside of the glove. That keeps stitching away from your palm, which reduces pressure points and makes the glove more comfortable over a long day, and it helps it last.
Silicone rubber is printed on the palm and fingers for grip on the wheel. Bellows across the knuckles and fingers let your hand move freely and protect against grazes, and mesh inserts help it breathe. It closes with a slanted wrist cut and an elastic band, with no bulky strap.
OMP print the design using silkscreen and sublimation, which is how they offer the glove in such a wide range of colours.

Who they suit
Both are good value starting points for karting, whether you are just getting into it or looking for a spare set. Worth knowing: karting boots and gloves are made for grip and protection from grazes, but they are not fire rated. If you race a car, you need FIA 8856-2018 boots and gloves instead.
Garreth’s advice with kart gloves is to go snug, as a loose glove bunches on the wheel. With a medium on display, you can try it before you order. Our guide to the best karting gloves compares the options.
