OMP Steering Wheel Fitted In Customers Car: The Velocita Superleggero On A Quick Release
Customer car, November 2022
One of our customers bought an OMP Velocita Superleggero steering wheel from us and sent over photos once it was in the car. It looks great. They have run it on a quick release boss, so the wheel comes off with a pull of the collar.
It is a good excuse to talk about the wheel itself, and about the update we have just finished on our whole OMP steering wheel range for the 2022 season.
- The OMP Velocita Superleggero is a 350mm, flat dish, three spoke wheel
- Suede grip, black aluminium spokes and a yellow centre stripe
- OMP quotes it as up to 40 per cent lighter than the standard Velocita
- Our customer paired it with a quick release boss
- Every OMP wheel listing has been updated for 2022
- The B-G Racing quick release boss is now a bundle option on OMP wheels

What is on this page
The customer's car
The photos show the wheel doing exactly what it is meant to do: a flat, slim suede rim sitting square in front of the dials, with the yellow centre stripe at twelve o'clock so the driver always knows where straight ahead is.
Behind it is a quick release boss in red. A quick release makes getting in and out of a car with a bucket seat far easier, and it means the wheel can come out of the car when it is parked up.

Garreth's advice with any quick release is to remember it adds depth. The wheel sits further towards the driver than it would on the boss kit alone, which can suit a flat wheel like this one very well. It is worth sitting in the seat and checking the reach before ordering.

The OMP Velocita Superleggero
The Superleggero is a lightweight three spoke competition wheel, 350mm across with a flat dish. The grip is suede and the spokes are black aluminium. OMP’s figure is that it is up to 40 per cent lighter than the standard Velocita, and saving weight on the end of the steering column is what the wheel is built around.
The grip is slimmer than most, an oval of 30 by 25mm. People with smaller hands tend to like it; people with large hands sometimes find it thin. We always suggest holding one before deciding. Like every OMP wheel it needs a boss kit made for the car, and standard OMP, Momo and Sparco boss kits fit. If a flat wheel is new to you, our guide to flat dish steering wheels explains when it is the right choice.

Our OMP steering wheels, updated for 2022
We have just been through every OMP steering wheel on the site. Each listing now carries the 2022 information on dimensions and materials, updated prices and new images. We have also added a bundle item at the checkout: the B-G Racing quick release steering wheel boss, which suits the OMP wheels, so a wheel and a quick release can go in the same order.
The range covers a lot of ground: different diameters and dish depths, leather or suede grips, several spoke and stripe colours, and a choice of fittings.
One we point people to often is the OMP Corsica. It has a deep dish, suede or leather grip and coloured aluminium spokes, and it can be specified with different spoke colours, stitching and centre stripes, plus two diameters. A deep dish brings the rim closer, which helps once a bucket seat has moved the driver back.
In the showroom
As of November 2022 we have an OMP Velocita Superleggero on display in the showroom, next to the OMP WRC, a 350mm semi dish wheel. Both can be picked up, held and compared, which is the best way to judge grip thickness and dish depth. Before fitting any aftermarket wheel to a road car, our guide on whether aftermarket steering wheels are road legal in the UK is worth a read.
What size is the OMP Velocita Superleggero?
It is a 350mm wheel with a flat dish and a suede grip.
How much lighter is the Superleggero?
OMP quotes it as up to 40 per cent lighter than the standard OMP Velocita.
Does the Superleggero need a boss kit?
Yes. Like every aftermarket wheel it needs a boss kit made for the car, and standard OMP, Momo and Sparco boss kits fit.
Why fit a quick release boss?
It lets the wheel come off in seconds, which makes getting in and out past a bucket seat far easier.
A Superleggero on a quick release is a neat, simple upgrade for a car that sees track time.
Every wheel needs a boss kit made for the car. Give us the make, model and year and we will match the right one.
