The OMP One Evo X, the top FIA race glove in the OMP range. Part number IB0-0775-A01.

What you pay more for

FIA 8856-2018, same homologation as the First Race Gloves and the Sport Race Gloves. For scrutineering all three are identical. What changes at this price is the honeycomb backing, which keeps heat out of the back of your hand during a long stint, and the silicone grip pattern. The One Evo X uses raised silicone dimples rather than a flat printed pattern, which grips better as the wheel gets damp. Over a session that matters.

Pre-curved palm and fingers, so the glove follows the shape of your hand on the wheel rather than fighting it. External seams where your hand contacts the wheel, which reduces pressure points over two hours in a car.

Who should buy it

If you are doing five track days a year, the First will not hold you back. If you are running regularly across a season and you notice grip degradation as the stint progresses, this is where the difference shows up. Not a subtle difference once you have driven both.

Sizing and colours

Available in six colours: black, white, red, fluorescent yellow, navy blue, orange and black. Sizes XS to XL.

Racing gloves should be snug with no loose material at the palm. Loose fabric moves against the rim rather than with it. Tell us your hand circumference and we will confirm the size.

Racing glove size guide

Glove letters are the least consistent sizing on the site. An Alpinestars M and a Sparco M are nowhere near the same glove. One measurement sorts it out, and it takes about ten seconds to take.

Measure your palm

1Wrap the tape round your knucklesAcross the widest part of your palm, at the base of the fingers. Leave the thumb out of it.
2Make a loose fistNot clenched. Just closed enough that the hand is in a driving shape.
3Use your dominant handIt is usually the slightly bigger one, and gloves are sold in pairs to one size.
4Write down both cm and inchesSome brands label in one, some in the other, and the numeric sizes are inches.
The numeric ladder is the common referenceSparco, OMP, MOMO, Sabelt and P1 all size gloves on the same numeric ladder, 4 up to 13, and Sparco and OMP both publish what each number means in centimetres. One numeric step is roughly half a centimetre of palm, not a whole size, which is why gloves are worth measuring rather than guessing.

Your size in each brand

Find your palm measurement on the left. The three main brands do not agree, and the gap is not small.

Palm (cm) Palm (inch) Numeric Sparco OMP Alpinestars
19 – 20.5 7½ – 8 7 XXS 2XS S
20.5 – 21.5 8 – 8½ 8 XS XS M
21.5 – 22.5 8½ – 8.9 9 S S L
22.5 – 23.5 8.9 – 9.2 10 M M L / XL
23.5 – 24.5 9.2 – 9.6 11 L L / XL XL
24.5 – 25 9.6 – 9.8 12 XL XL XXL
25 – 25.5 9.8 – 10 13 XXL XXL XXL

Alpinestars run two letters bigger

Sparco and OMP put their letter row two steps up the numeric ladder, so a Sparco XS is a numeric 8. Alpinestars map their letters straight onto it, so their M is the same numeric 8. The result is that the same hand takes an Alpinestars M and a Sparco XS.

Letter Sparco palm OMP palm Alpinestars palm
S 21.5 – 22.5 cm 21.6 – 22.3 cm 17.8 – 20.3 cm
M 22.5 – 23.5 cm 22.4 – 23.0 cm 20.3 – 21.6 cm
L 23.5 – 24.5 cm 23.1 – 23.7 cm 21.6 – 22.9 cm
XL 24.5 – 25.0 cm 23.8 – 24.8 cm 22.9 – 24.1 cm
XXL 25.0 – 25.5 cm 24.7 – 25.4 cm 24.1 – 25.4 cm

If you already own a pair of Sparco or OMP gloves that fit, go up roughly two letters for Alpinestars. A Sparco S is about an Alpinestars L. The two brands only converge at XXL, where both land on a ten inch palm.

From the chart published by Brown & Geeson, MOMO’s UK distributor.

Sabelt and P1Both on the numeric ladder. Neither publishes a measurement chart.

The P1 Grip 2 is sold in 7 and 8. Read those off the numeric column in the table above, so a 7 is a 19 to 20.5 cm palm and an 8 is 20.5 to 21.5 cm.

The Sabelt Geckotech TG-11 is listed here as XS to XL. Sabelt do not publish hand measurements for it, so rather than convert from someone else’s chart, send us your palm measurement and we will confirm the size with the supplier before it ships.

How a race glove should fit

Tight, with no spare material

A driving glove wants to feel like a second skin. Any slack across the palm rolls up under your hand on the rim and you lose feel through the wheel, which is the entire reason for wearing them. If it feels slightly tight new, that is usually right. Leather and suede give a little in the first few sessions. Nomex knit does not, so buy that one to fit on day one.

External seams

The better gloves put the palm seams on the outside so nothing presses into your hand against the rim. It is worth having if you do long stints, and it is the single feature most likely to stop a hot spot developing across the base of the fingers.

Between two sizes

Take the smaller one on a leather or suede glove and the larger one on a knitted glove. That is the opposite of the advice for boots and suits, and it catches people out.

Send us your palm measurementGive us the number in centimetres and the glove you are looking at and we will confirm the letter. Gloves are the easiest thing on the site to get wrong and the most annoying to send back. Call 0115 989 3488 or email Sales@GSMPerformance.co.uk.

Sparco from sparco-official.com. OMP from the size chart on their Tecnica glove product page. Alpinestars from the size guide on their Tech-1 Race V4 product page. MOMO from Brown & Geeson, their UK distributor. All checked 2 August 2026. Manufacturers revise these, so if a chart on the packaging disagrees with this page, the packaging wins and we would like to know.

Have you written anything about this exact product?
Yes, we have covered this exact product: The OMP One Evo X Set: Suit, One Evo X Boots And One Evo X Gloves, and OMP One Evo FX Race Boots 2026 – The Latest Evolution in Motorsport Footwear. That is first-hand coverage from our own builds and showroom, not brochure copy.

What size should I order?
Sizes run from XS to XL. Measure around your palm at the knuckles, and aim for a snug fit with no spare material at the fingertips, as loose fabric between you and the wheel costs feel. Our racing gloves guide includes sizing advice, or send us your measurement and we will confirm.

Are they legal for competition?
These gloves are homologated to FIA 8856-2018, the current FIA standard, so the label is there when scrutineers ask for it. Our racing gloves guide explains what the approvals mean.

Why do some racing gloves have external seams?
Stitching on the outside leaves the inside of the glove smooth against your skin, so there are no pressure lines on the palm or fingers over a long stint. It looks inside-out the first time you see it, and it is one of the things you are paying for as gloves get more serious.

How do I wash them?
As rarely as you can, and gently when you do: cool hand wash, no bleach or softener, air dry. Grip coatings and fire-resistant fabrics both suffer in a machine. Our racewear care guide has the full routine.
