Shallow is the band most road cars end up in, and it is also the one word on this subject that no manufacturer actually uses. MOMO call these half dished, Sparco call most of them flat, and OMP do not make one at all.
We stock thirty eight of them between 30mm and 43mm, and thirty four are MOMO. This page lists every single one with its dish figure, diameter, grip and price, explains why the whole band is only 13mm wide, and covers the mistake we unpick most often, which is buying one of these to put behind a quick release.

What shallow dish means, and whose word it is
Shallow is the band between flat and semi. On our listings it covers 30mm to 43mm, which is a rim sitting somewhere between an inch and an inch and three quarters closer to you than the mounting face on the boss.
Here is the part worth knowing before you shop: not one of the four manufacturers we stock uses the word shallow. MOMO call these half dished, Sparco mostly call them flat, and OMP do not make anything in this band at all. Shallow is a retailer’s word, ours included, for a group the makers never named. That is fine as shorthand as long as you know it is shorthand, and it is exactly why the millimetre figure on every listing is the number to shop on.
The road car default
A modest dish on a plain boss lands the rim close to where a factory wheel sat, only smaller and better to hold. That is why this band exists.
MOMO own it
Thirty four of the thirty eight are MOMO. If you want a shallow wheel you are mostly shopping their catalogue, and Sparco fill in four.
Not for a quick release
A quick release adds about 60mm by itself. Stack a shallow wheel on top and you are past semi before the wheel has done anything. Go flat if a quick release is in the plan.
The Prototipo family, and why it is really one decision
Six of the wheels on this page are a Prototipo of one sort or another. The plain one comes in 320mm, 350mm and 370mm and the Heritage matches it at 37mm; the Black Edition and the Heritage Tobacco are 39mm. That 2mm is nothing you will ever feel, so the shape is effectively the same across all six.
So the Prototipo decision is not about dish at all. It is diameter first, then which finish you want to look at for the next ten years. The 350mm is the one we sell most of by a distance. The 320mm suits a car with a cage bar or a tight footwell. The 370mm is for a classic where a small wheel would look wrong on the column.
Every shallow wheel we stock, brand by brand
Thirty eight wheels across two brands. The tables carry every one of them with the figures off the listings, and the cards underneath each table are a shortlist worth starting with.
MOMO: thirty four of the thirty eight
This is MOMO’s home ground and it is where their best known wheels live. The Prototipo, the Indy, the Grand Prix, the Montecarlo, the California: all of them sit between 30mm and 40mm, and all of them are built around the same idea, which is a wheel for a car you drive on the road and occasionally take somewhere interesting.
The spread inside the band is narrower than the number of wheels suggests. Twenty seven of the thirty four sit between 36mm and 40mm, so for most of this range the dish is effectively settled and you are choosing on diameter, rim material and looks. The Montecarlo Heritage Wood at 30mm is the shallowest thing we sell that is not flat, and the Model 88 at 43mm is the deepest wheel in the band.
The wood rimmed ones deserve a word. The Montecarlo Heritage Wood, the California Heritage Wood and the Heritage California are the wheels people put in a classic and then keep when they sell the car. They cost more and they are worth it if that is the car you have. On a track car, buy suede.

Sparco: four, and they call them flat
Sparco give four wheels a dish figure in this band and describe every one of them as flat in their own copy. The L505 is 33mm, the Pro is 36mm, and the 323 and 383 are both 39mm. We have grouped them here by the millimetre figure because that is the only way to compare them against a MOMO, but if you go to Sparco’s own pages expecting the word shallow you will not find it.
The 323 and the 383 are the two worth knowing. Both are 330mm, both 39mm, and the difference is the finish and about £17. Cameron would take the 383 for a road car and the 323 for anything that lives outdoors.

How to choose inside a 13mm spread
The whole band is 13mm wide. That is smaller than the difference between two people’s hand positions, so the honest answer is that dish is not the deciding factor once you are inside it. What actually decides it:
Diameter comes first. Most of this range is 350mm, which is close to what a lot of cars came with, so it feels normal straight away. The 320mm options are noticeably quicker and heavier. The Retro and the California go to 360mm, and the Prototipo 370mm is the biggest here.
Then rim material. Suede grips better with gloves on and wears where your hands sit. Leather lasts longer on a car that gets used in all weathers. Wood is for looks, and it is genuinely lovely on the right classic.
Then the horn push and the centre. Some of these come with a horn button and some do not, which the table above records, and it is the detail people forget until the wheel is on the car.
What we would actually fit
For a fast road car on a plain boss, the Prototipo 350mm. It has been the right answer for about forty years and nothing on this page beats it for the money.
For a classic, one of the wood rimmed Montecarlos or the Heritage California. They are the wheels that make the inside of an old car feel finished.
For a budget, the MOMO Quark at £172.99 is the cheapest wheel in the band and there is nothing wrong with it.
And the one to avoid buying by accident: if there is a quick release going on, none of these. Read the flat dish guide instead, because 60mm of quick release plus 40mm of dish puts the rim somewhere you will not enjoy.

Common questions
Is shallow dish the same as half dished?
Effectively yes. Half dished is MOMO's own term and it covers roughly the same band. Nobody uses the word shallow except retailers, so if you are reading a MOMO page, half dished is what you are looking for.
Will I feel the difference between 37mm and 40mm?
No. The whole band is 13mm wide and 3mm of it is nothing. Choose on diameter, rim material and looks, and treat any wheel in this band as the same reach.
Why does OMP have nothing in this band?
Because OMP only publish a depth figure for wheels they consider dished, and they do not call anything dished until 70mm. Everything shallower is simply flat to them, so their whole shallow equivalent sits in the flat guide.
Can I use a shallow wheel with a quick release?
You can, but we would not. The quick release adds about 60mm on its own, so a 40mm wheel on top puts you at roughly 100mm, which is deeper than any wheel we sell. Go flat if a quick release is in the plan.
Which is the shallowest wheel you sell that is not flat?
The MOMO Montecarlo Heritage Wood at 30mm. The next ones up are the Sparco L505 and the MOMO Model 80, both 33mm.
Do these need a different boss kit?
No. The boss kit is chosen by the car, not the dish. Every wheel on this page is the standard 6 x 70mm bolt pattern.
