The Sparco Futura Set: Three Layer Suit, Slalom Boots And Futura Gloves
Which race suit do you buy first? The Sparco Futura is a good answer, and this guide builds the whole set round it: the three layer Futura suit at £490.20, the Slalom boots at £108 and the Futura gloves at £107.40. That is £705.60 inc VAT for three pieces that all carry FIA 8856-2018, and one colourway, black and fluorescent yellow, runs through all three.

The three pieces and what they cost
A race suit, boots and gloves are three separate purchases, and the set only works if the pieces carry the same standard and the colours go together. These three do both. Every one is listed to FIA 8856-2018, and the black and fluorescent yellow colourway exists on the suit, the boots and the gloves.
The prices below are read from the site today, and the suit, the boots and the gloves are each the same price in every colour.

1. The suit: Sparco Futura, three layers at £490.20
The Futura is Sparco’s three layer race suit approved to FIA 8856-2018. Three layers is what most circuit series that require a race suit will specify, and the thermal protection is better than on a single or double layer suit, which are lighter and cheaper. The Futura sits in the middle of Sparco’s range, above the entry suits and below the professional ones.
Sparco make the fabric with its Full Efficiency process, which puts recycled fibres from its other safety products into the blend, and the listing says the material meets the FIA specification without losing protection. The build is lighter than older three layer designs. You get extraction epaulets, fully floating sleeves with pre-formed arms, wrist and ankle cuffs knitted without seams, elasticated neck and waist straps and concealed hip pockets.

The four suit colours

The listing calls the four colours a real choice on this suit. Black and fluorescent yellow stands out in a paddock. Black and grey is the quiet one, and red and black and green each have their followers.
2. The boots: Sparco Slalom, our best seller at £108
The Slalom is the race shoe we sell more of than any other. The current version is listed to FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3/5, so it meets the two main competition footwear standards. The upper is full suede, which gives grip and feel without going rigid, and the natural rubber sole resists oil and fuel.
The sole is thin enough that heel and toe comes naturally. The ankle has a soft fabric cuff insert so the foot moves freely in the driving position, the toe is reinforced and the insole is leather. We cover the Slalom in more detail in our Sparco Sprint Advanced set guide.

The five Slalom colours

If your seating position loads the ankle more than most, the Sparco Top is the step up at £126.60. It adds a Velcro ankle strap, a higher cut and ankle bellows. It comes in black, blue and red and carries the same FIA 8856-2018 approval.
3. The gloves: Sparco Futura, £107.40
The Futura gloves are Sparco’s FIA race glove built on the same Full Efficiency process as the suit. Offcuts and waste from its other certified products are processed back into the glove shell. The FIA and SFI approvals hold regardless of the recycled content.
What you notice on the wheel is the seam placement. The finger seams are on the outside, so no ridge presses on the finger where you grip, and the listing points to inner seams as one of the main causes of tired and numb hands over a long session. There is a silicone grip print on the palm and fingers, and the glove is cut snug for wheel feel.

The four Futura glove colours

Which colours go together
We match on the colour names in the listings, and the photos above show each one. Only one colourway has the same name on all three pieces. That is where the set looks most like a set.
| Suit colour | Slalom boots | Futura gloves |
|---|---|---|
| Black and fluorescent yellow | Black and fluorescent yellow | Black and fluorescent yellow |
| Black and green | Black | Black and green |
| Black and grey | Black | Black and white |
| Red | Red | No red glove: black and white is the nearest |
Colour names are as listed on each product. There is no green Slalom boot, and the Futura gloves do not come in red.
Sizing: three different systems
The three pieces size in three different ways, which is the usual reason a set arrives wrong. The suit uses Italian sizing, 48 to 66, and it follows body measurements in centimetres rather than the UK clothing convention. Sparco’s size guide works from chest, waist and inseam, and a suit size from another brand or another country does not translate reliably without those measurements.
The boots run EU 39 (UK 5.5) to EU 48 (UK 13), and the gloves run XS to XXL, with the listing asking for your palm measurement so we can confirm the size first time.
Cameron does the suit sizes. Send him your chest, waist and inseam. He comes back with a size before you order.

Common questions
What does the Futura set cost?
£705.60 inc VAT for the three pieces, which is the suit at £490.20, the Slalom boots at £108 and the Futura gloves at £107.40, and each piece is the same price in every colour.
Is the Futura a three layer suit?
Yes. The listing describes it as Sparco’s three layer race suit, approved to FIA 8856-2018. Three layers is what most circuit series that require a race suit specify, but check the rules for your own series.
Which Futura colour matches the boots and the gloves?
Black and fluorescent yellow. It is the only colourway with the same name on the suit, the Slalom boots and the Futura gloves. The photos in this guide show all three.
What is the Full Efficiency process?
It is Sparco’s way of putting recycled fibres from its other safety products into the suit fabric, and offcuts and waste into the glove shell. The listings say the FIA approvals hold regardless of the recycled content. On the suit the listing adds that the build is lighter than older three layer designs.
Why choose the Futura gloves over cheaper FIA gloves?
Cheaper FIA gloves exist, and the Sparco Land Race Gloves at £78 are one. The case for the Futura is the external finger seams, which take the ridge off your fingers on a long session. It is also approved to both FIA and SFI, which matters if you race under both.
Which suit size do I need?
Italian sizing runs 48 to 66 and follows body measurements in centimetres: chest, waist and inseam. Send us your measurements and Cameron confirms the size before you order. A size from another brand or another country does not translate reliably.

What we would buy
Garreth
What I would buy
For a first FIA set I would buy the Futura in black and fluorescent yellow with the Slalom boots and the Futura gloves. That is £705.60 for three pieces that match. The Slalom is the shoe we sell more of than any other.
If the budget is tight I would keep the suit and swap the gloves for the Land gloves at £78. The suit is where the protection is. The gloves are where you can save.
Cameron
What I check before it ships
I check the suit size first, because Italian sizing is by body measurement and a size from another brand does not carry over. Then I check the gloves by palm measurement. The boots come last.
Where Garreth and I differ is the gloves. I would pay the extra for the Futura. The external seams are the thing your hands notice on the fortieth lap.
Not sure of your size?
Send us your chest, waist and inseam and your palm measurement. Cally, our digital receptionist, takes your details. Cameron comes back to you with the sizes before you order.
