Sparco Prime Extreme Race Boots: A Closer Look Before They Went Out
Racewear showcase, May 2025
A pair of Sparco Prime Extreme race boots came through the showroom this week on their way to a customer, and we took a few photos before they went out. The Prime Extreme is a very light boot, and the printed pattern on the upper looks better up close than it does on a screen.
This pair is in navy with red detailing. Here is what the boot is, how it is built, and how it compares with the other Sparco boots we list.
- Sparco Prime Extreme, part number 0012A9
- Approved to FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3/5
- Printable, ultralight fabric upper with a viscose blend lining

What the Prime Extreme is
The Prime Extreme sits at the top end of Sparco's race boot range, and it is built around low weight. Sparco quotes 198g for a size 42. The upper is an ultralight fabric that can be printed, which is where the pattern on this pair comes from, and the lining is a breathable viscose blend.
It is approved to FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3/5, so it covers the FIA standard for racewear and the American one as well.

How it is built
Under the foot is a flexible carbon insole, which is there to give the driver a clear feel of the pedals. The sole is oil and hydrocarbon resistant rubber, with a rear spoiler at the heel for extra support.
A layer of transparent silicone reinforces the upper and helps it last, and there is an expanded foam insert at the side of the toe for protection. The laces are external and light, and sizes run from EU 37 upwards.
Looking at them in the hand, the thing that stood out was how little there is to them. The printed pattern gives the fabric a textured look, and the red flashes and Prime Extreme lettering on the side are part of the print.
Garreth's advice with a boot this light is to be sure it suits the driving you do. It is made for feel at the pedals more than for walking round a paddock all day.

The other Sparco boots we list
If the Prime Extreme is more boot than you need, the Sparco range steps down through several FIA approved models, including the Prime Evo, the X-Light+ and the Slalom+. Each one balances weight, support and price differently. Our guide on how to choose FIA race boots explains what to look for.
Look after any race boot by airing it out after use, storing it in a bag between events, and cleaning it with a soft brush and a damp cloth.
