A new pair of Sparco Slalom FIA racing shoes with red detailing has just arrived in the showroom, and it is on the display ready to look at and try on. We now have the Slalom in black, blue and red on the shelves, ready to go out straight away or be collected, with more sizes and colours on the website.
The red works well on this shoe. It picks out the stitching and the edge of the sole without taking over the black suede. Here is what the Slalom is, and the rest of the Sparco shoes we recommend for drivers starting out.

What is on this page
The Sparco Slalom
The Slalom is made from soft suede with Sparco embroidery, and it has the features you would expect on a dearer race shoe. There is a leather insole for comfort, and a slim rubber sole that resists oil and fuel, with anti-slip and anti-static properties for good control of the pedals.
It is approved to FIA 8856-2018, the current FIA standard for racewear, and it is the shoe we most often point new drivers towards.
Race shoes are required in most forms of motorsport. A good pair has a flame retardant lining and a thin sole that lets you feel the pedals. The Slalom Plus
The Slalom Plus takes its inspiration from the Slalom. It comes with either a full suede upper or suede with contrasting fabric inserts, which let it breathe better. It has a newly developed insole for comfort and fit, and scuff resistant heels and toes to stop the shoe wearing through.
The flame retardant lining is breathable and helps reduce sweating, and an asymmetric thin lace closure gives a precise, secure fit.
The rest of our entry-level Sparco range
All the Sparco shoes we recommend for drivers starting out carry the FIA 8856-2018 approval. The Skid and Skid Plus were designed to the latest FIA homologation for heat and flame resistance, with abrasion resistant inserts in the sides and heel and Kevlar lace loops. The Skid Plus adds a shock absorbing, anti-vibration sole, while the Skid has a thin rubber sole with a grip texture.
At the top of the Sparco range is the X-Light Plus, in kangaroo leather and synthetic leather. It has no tongue. An internal elasticated sock gives a closer fit, with a lace closure at the side.
