The All-New HANS IV Device: Now Available at GSM Performance

The HANS IV has arrived for the 2025 season, and we have it available now. It replaces the HANS III as the clubman device in the HANS range, and it comes in small, medium and large.
HANS says it is about 10% lighter than the III. It also has taller wings to keep the harness straps in place, new foam compound pads and sliding tethers, and it is approved to FIA 8858-2010.

What is new on the HANS IV
The HANS IV is a refinement of the III, not a new idea. The weight has come down by about 10%, and the shape has been reworked so it sits more comfortably on the shoulders. The wings, the raised sides that the harness shoulder straps run over, are taller, which helps keep the belts where they should be.
The pads are now a foam compound, chosen for comfort and durability, and the device comes with sliding tethers, which let you turn your head further to look into a corner or check a mirror. It is a 20 degree device, which suits the fairly upright seating position of most saloon and rally cars, and it is approved to FIA 8858-2010.

The small size suits slimmer and younger drivers. If you sit on the line between two sizes, try both, and try them in your seat with the belts done up.
How a HANS device works
A HANS or FHR device sits on your shoulders, held down by the harness shoulder straps. Tethers run from the device to posts on each side of your helmet. In a frontal impact the harness holds your body, and the tethers stop your head from being thrown forward on its own, which is what causes the most serious neck injuries.
That means the device only works as part of a system: an FIA approved helmet with HANS posts fitted, and a harness whose shoulder straps sit correctly over the device.
