New Sparco Racing Boots For 2025: The Slalom+, The Rapid And The Skid
Racewear news, January 2025
Sparco's race boot range has been refreshed for 2025, and three of the new models are now on our site: the updated Slalom+, the new Rapid and the redesigned Skid. All three are approved to FIA 8856-2018 and come in UK sizes 5.5 to 13.
They cover three different budgets and three different ways of fastening a boot, from classic laces on suede to a rotor dial. Here is how they differ and which one we would point you towards.
- Three Sparco race boots for 2025: Slalom+, Rapid and Skid
- All three are approved to FIA 8856-2018
- The Slalom+ and Skid also carry SFI 3.3/5
- Sizes UK 5.5 to UK 13 across the range
- Suede on the Slalom+, calfskin on the Rapid and Skid

The Slalom+
The Slalom has long been Sparco’s value boot, and the Slalom+ is its 2025 update. It is a suede boot with a breathable fire-resistant lining, an ergonomic insole and a reinforced, scuff-resistant heel and toe. The new sole is heat-resistant rubber, which cuts heat coming up from the floor of the car while keeping pedal feel.
It carries FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3/5 approvals and comes in black, blue or red. For a first set of racewear it is the obvious place to start.
The Rapid. New for 2025, and the one that looks different. It is a mid-cut boot in soft calfskin with a rotor lace system: a dial tightens an integrated ribbon that wraps the whole foot, so it is quick to fasten and holds the foot still.
Inside is a heat-insulated insole and a shock-absorbing footbed, with a high-grip rubber sole and an abrasion-resistant heel and side panels. It is FIA 8856-2018 and comes in red and black, black and grey, fluorescent yellow and black, or white and black.

The Skid
The Skid has been redesigned for 2025 in perforated calfskin, which keeps it light and lets air through. Like the Slalom+ it has a heat-insulated thin rubber sole to reduce heat from the cockpit floor, along with a flame-retardant anti-perspirant lining and a shock-absorbing insole.
It carries FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3/5 approvals and comes in black and white, white and black, red and black, or navy blue and white.

Choosing between them
If you want a proven, affordable suede boot, choose the Slalom+. If you get in and out of the car a lot, or struggle to keep laces tight, the Rapid’s rotor closure is the one to try. If you race in hot conditions and want a lighter leather boot, look at the Skid.
Garreth’s advice is to size a race boot snugly, because a thin sole only helps if the foot is not moving inside the boot. Our guide to choosing FIA race boots goes into approvals, sizing and pedal feel.
