Suits, underwear, gloves and shoes can carry different instructions. Read each label before choosing temperature, detergent, drying or professional cleaning.
The old page prescribed 30°C and said never dry-clean every suit. That is too broad. Follow the manufacturer’s label on the individual item and ask the maker when the symbol or wording is unclear.
Bleach, solvent, fabric softener and aggressive spot treatments can affect protective material. Ask the clothing maker before treating fuel, oil or chemical contamination.
Separate the kit by its own instructions
Empty pockets and check zips, cuffs, seams and hook-and-loop closures. Read the suit, balaclava, underwear, socks, gloves and shoes separately. Similar-looking items may use different materials.
Use only the method the maker specifies
Follow the stated cycle, temperature and detergent. Close fastenings if instructed and avoid overloading the machine. Do not assume a product sold as sports detergent is approved for protective clothing.
If the label allows professional cleaning, show the cleaner the garment instructions. If it does not, do not invent an exception.
Dry fully without excessive heat
Use the drying method on the label. Store clean clothing dry, away from prolonged sunlight, damp, exhaust heat and chemicals. Do not pack a damp suit into a closed kit bag after an event.
Cleaning can reveal damage
Look for open seams, thinning fabric, holes, failed cuffs, damaged closures and unreadable labels. Contact the manufacturer about repairs. Clean clothing is not safe clothing when its layers or construction have failed.

Can I dry-clean an FIA suit?▾
Only where the manufacturer’s care label permits it. Do not apply a blanket rule to every suit.

What should I do with fuel or chemical contamination?▾
Stop using the item and contact the manufacturer with details of the substance. Do not hide it with a stain treatment.
