The OMP First long sleeve top, homologated to FIA 8856-2018. Part number IAA-771.

Double layer soft knit Nomex in the natural ecru fabric. Approved underwear is the part of a race kit people most often skimp on and it is doing more work than they realise.

Why the layer underneath matters

A race suit is rated as a system rather than as an outer shell on its own. What is underneath adds protection time in a fire and, day to day, keeps the suit off your skin. Direct contact is what turns heat into a burn. That is why approved underwear has to cover the arm to the wrist rather than stopping short, and why a short sleeved top will not satisfy a scrutineer whatever it is made of.

OMP’s entry level line, built for clubman racers who want current FIA standards without professional prices. It runs across suit, gloves, boots, balaclava, top, bottoms and socks, all to 8856-2018, so a fully approved set comes from one range and the pieces match.

Do I actually need FIA underwear?
If your championship requires it, this is the layer scrutineers ask about, and it is strongly recommended under any suit regardless. These tops are homologated to FIA 8856-2018, the current FIA standard, so the label is there when scrutineers ask for it. What size should I go for?
Sizes run from XS to XXL. Underwear layers should sit close to the skin without pinching, as loose fabric wrinkles under the suit and gets uncomfortable fast. Between sizes, take the smaller one for a base layer.

How do I wash it?
Underwear layers are the one bit of racewear you should wash after every use: cool and gentle, no bleach or fabric softener, air dry. That keeps the suit itself needing far fewer washes. Full routine in our racewear care guide.
