Sizes run in pairs, XS to S, M to L and XL to XXL, which is normal for close fitting race underwear: the fabric takes up the difference within each band rather than needing a size for every chest measurement.

One thing to confirm before you order

Our listing shows this top as non FIA, and Sparco’s own naming across their underwear ranges is not always consistent between a garment’s title and its part number. If your regulations require FIA 8856-2018 underwear, ask us and we will confirm the exact range and approval against Sparco’s own catalogue before you buy. We would rather do that than have you turn up at scrutineering with the wrong layer on.

If your class does not specify underwear, none of that matters and this is simply the layer that stops a suit sitting on bare skin.

Why the layer underneath matters

A race suit is rated as a system rather than as an outer shell alone. What is underneath adds protection time in a fire and, more importantly day to day, keeps the suit off your skin. Direct contact is what turns heat into a burn.

Take your chest measurement rather than a shirt size. Underwear is meant to fit close, and a loose layer bunches at the shoulder under a harness.

Is this FIA approved?
No, this is a comfort layer rather than homologated flameproof underwear, so it does not count where the regulations call for FIA 8856 underwear. It suits karting, testing, and track days. If you race under rules that require FIA underwear, look at the FIA 8856-2018 items in the range, and our guide on whether fireproof underwear is mandatory explains when it matters.

What size should I go for?
Sizes run from XS-S to XL-XXL. Underwear layers should sit close to the skin without pinching, as loose fabric wrinkles under the suit and gets uncomfortable fast. Between sizes, take the smaller one for a base layer.

How do I wash it?
Underwear layers are the one bit of racewear you should wash after every use: cool and gentle, no bleach or fabric softener, air dry. That keeps the suit itself needing far fewer washes. Full routine in our racewear care guide.
