The Complete B-G and MOMO Nissan Steering Wheel Hub Guide

Nissan is the biggest boss kit range we hold, 84 kits across the three brands, and that is both good news and a reason to read the listing titles carefully. I am Cameron, I look after the steering wheel side of things at GSM Performance.

Two things worth knowing before you start. B-G stop at the R33 Skyline, so anything newer than that comes from MOMO or OMP. And if you are in a 350Z there is exactly one hub, MOMO MK3516R, and nothing else in the catalogue touches the car.

Below is the range, what each hub covers, and the wheels that bolt to it.

The in-car photograph in this guide is an AI illustration, generated from our own MOMO product photography so the wheel and its horn button are the real thing.

MOMO steering wheel and boss kit fitted in a right hand drive Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R

Why you need a B-G or MOMO boss kit

An aftermarket wheel will not bolt onto a Nissan column on its own. The column has splines, the back of the wheel has a bolt pattern, and the boss kit is the part that joins the two. It also sets how far the wheel sits from the dash, which decides your reach to the indicator stalks and the clearance over your knees.

Both brands machine theirs from cast aluminium and put the fixing screws, the Allen key and the horn button retaining ring in the box, so nothing is missing halfway through the job. The B-G kits are made in Italy and drilled twice, for 6 x 70mm and 6 x 74mm. The MOMO kits are drilled 6 x 70mm.

It joins two different fittings

Your column has splines. The back of the wheel has a bolt pattern. The hub is the only part that speaks both.

It sets how far the wheel sits

The hub decides the distance from the dash, which changes your reach to the indicator stalks and the clearance over your knees.

Nothing else to buy

The fixing screws, the Allen key and the horn button retaining ring are all in the box, so nothing stops you halfway through the job.

The Silvia family is the one to slow down on. The 200SX, 240ZX and Silvia are sold as one line and the hub changes four times: pre-1978, 1979 to 1986, 1987 to 1992, and the S14 from 1993. The Sunny, Sentra, Laurel and Spirit do the same thing across six listings, and two of those years have both a solid and a collapsible option at the same price.

Match the year in the listing title to your car and you will be right. If you are between two of them, send us the registration and we will check it before you order.

Steering wheel installation explained

So how does a Sparco wheel end up on a MOMO hub? Because nearly every aftermarket motorsport wheel is drilled to the same pattern, six bolts on a 70mm circle, written as 6 x 70mm PCD. MOMO, Sparco, OMP, Simoni Racing and the Mountney M-Range all use it. The hub is chosen by your car, the wheel is chosen by you, and nothing locks you into one brand.

The Nissan B-G boss kit range

There are 46 B-G Nissan hubs in total and they all sit at the same money. Shown here are the 20 that cover the cars we are asked about most, from the C10 Skyline and the Roadster 1600 through the Silvia line to the Navara D22. The link further down lists every one.

A lot of them are the same part. BG8017 alone covers eleven listings including the Cedric, the Gloria, the pre-1981 Patrol, the 1979 to 1986 Silvia and the C10 Skyline. BG8247 does both the S14 Silvia and the R33 Skyline GT-R. If your model is not listed but a sister car is, ask before you rule it out.

Explore our full range of B-G and MOMO boss kits

The links here run a live search across the store, so they stay current as the range moves. OMP make Nissan hubs too and they add the Almera, the Silvia SX and the 1.6 Micra from 2005. Those are a solid, non-collapsible design, which is what most track and competition cars run. If your Nissan is not showing up in any of the three ranges, ask. With a range this size there is usually a sister model listed that shares the same column.

Why not add a steering wheel quick release kit

A quick release sits between the boss kit and the wheel and lets you pull the wheel off the column in a second. Two reasons people fit them. Getting in and out past a fixed wheel in a caged car is awkward, and a wheel that comes off with you is a wheel nobody can drive away with.

B-G Racing quick releaseFittingSuits
UniversalBolt-onMost road and track cars, nothing to modify
StandardBolt-onThe same job in the heavier duty version
Weld-On 3-PointWeld-onA column that is already being cut and welded
Weld-On 6-PointWeld-onAs above, with the stiffer six bolt fixing

B-G Racing do four. The universal and the standard bolt-on versions suit most road and track cars and need nothing modifying. The weld-on 3-point and 6-point are for a car where the column is being cut and welded anyway. All four take the same 6 x 70mm wheels as everything else on this page.

Pair your boss kit with a high performance steering wheel

Once the hub is sorted the wheel is entirely your choice. These are the ones I would put in a Nissan, and there is a spread of diameter, dish and price here rather than ten versions of the same thing.

For a Silvia or a Skyline the MOMO Mod.07 and the Mod.03 are the obvious picks, both suede, both the sort of thing that suits a car you actually drive hard. For an older Datsun-era car the Prototipo looks right and nothing else comes close.

Every wheel we sell is drilled 6 x 70mm, so any of them will bolt to any of the hubs above. The only real decision is diameter and dish, which changes how heavy the steering feels and how close the rim sits to your chest.

Final thoughts

With 84 kits between the three brands there is a Nissan hub for nearly everything, from a 1965 220C to a 350Z. The part is cheap next to the wheel, and getting it right is a case of matching the model and the year in the listing to your own car.

If you are stuck between two listings, drop us a line and ask for me. Send the registration over and I will tell you which hub you need before you spend anything.
