It is also the dish we reach for most often on a plain boss kit with nothing else behind it, because it lands the rim where most people actually want it once a bucket seat has gone in. What semi dish means
Semi is the middle of the four. On our listings it runs 63mm to 72mm, so the rim sits between two and a half and three inches forward of the mounting face on the boss. Put your hands on one and the difference against a flat wheel is obvious immediately, which is not something you can say about the shallow band.
It is also the smallest group we sell. Seven wheels, against fifty three flat and thirty eight shallow. That is not us being selective, it is the market: most manufacturers jump straight from a lightly dished road wheel to a proper deep one, and only Sparco really populate the middle.

Four Sparco, two OMP and one Sabelt. The whole band we stock fits on one screen, which makes this an easy decision compared with the other three.
The plain boss answer
On a boss kit with nothing else behind it, a semi lands the rim in a genuinely comfortable place for most people. It is the dish we reach for most on a standard fit.
A 9mm spread
63mm to 72mm covers the lot. Choose on diameter and price, because the dish difference across the band is small enough to ignore.
The band where the makers disagree most
This is the part of the range where the words fall apart completely, and it is worth understanding before you cross shop.
MOMO describe their 70mm Mod.07 as having a deep dish. OMP describe their RS, at 72mm, as mid-depth dished. Same distance, 2mm apart, and one maker calls it deep while the other calls it middling. Our own listings follow each maker’s wording, which is a decision we took deliberately, so you will find MOMO wheels at 70mm in the deep guide and OMP wheels at 70mm and 72mm on this one.
If that sounds inconsistent, it is, and the inconsistency belongs to the manufacturers. The fix is the same as everywhere else on this subject: read the millimetre figure and ignore the adjective. A 70mm OMP and a 70mm MOMO put your hands in exactly the same place.

Sparco: four of the seven, and the widest choice
Sparco are the only maker who really commit to this band. The 345 at £152 is the cheapest of their four and it is a plain, honest 350mm suede wheel with a 63mm dish. The L575 matches it at 63mm with a different finish. The L777 is 65mm and 350mm, and the 368 is the odd one, a 380mm wheel at 65mm dish, which is a combination almost nobody else makes.
That 368 is worth pausing on. A 380mm rim with 65mm of dish is a big wheel brought close to you, and it suits a car with no power steering where you want leverage but the column sits too far away. It is a specific answer to a specific problem and when it fits, nothing else does.

OMP: the two that start their dished range
OMP do not use a depth figure at all until a wheel is dished in their terms, and the WRC at 70mm and the RS at 72mm are where that starts. Everything shallower in the OMP catalogue is simply flat to them, which is why the flat guide has twenty three OMP wheels on it and this page has two.
The RS at £143.50 is the cheapest wheel on this page and one of the best value things we sell. The WRC at £159.50 has been in rally cars for years and it is the one we would fit ourselves on a plain boss. Both are 350mm suede.

Sabelt: the middle of the clearest range we sell
The SW-465 at 65mm is the semi member of a trio that makes this whole subject easy to understand. Sabelt build essentially the same wheel at three depths: the SW-633 is flat, this one is 65mm, and the SW-390 is 90mm. Same design, three positions, and choosing between them is purely a question of where you want your hands.
If you are trying to understand dish rather than just buy a wheel, look at those three side by side. It is the clearest illustration in the catalogue and it is why the main dish guide uses them to explain the idea.

Who a semi dish actually suits
The clearest case is a car where the seat has gone back and down, the column has not moved, and your arms are now that bit too straight. That is most cars once a bucket seat goes in, and 65mm of dish fixes it without any other parts.
It also suits anyone who wants the wheel closer but still wants to get in and out without a fight. Deep dish is genuinely in the way when you are climbing over a cage bar or a wide seat bolster, and a semi mostly is not.
Where it does not work is behind a quick release. The quick release adds about 60mm on its own, so a 65mm wheel on top of one puts you at roughly 125mm, which is deeper than anything we sell as a wheel. If a quick release is in the plan, the flat guide is the one to read.
What we would actually fit
The OMP WRC. It is £159.50, it is 350mm suede, it has been doing this job in rally cars for years, and on a plain boss it lands the rim exactly where most people want it. That is the one we fit most and the one we would put in our own car.
If you want to spend less, the OMP RS at £143.50 is 2mm deeper and cheaper, and the only reason we do not lead with it is that the WRC rim feels slightly better in the hand. If you want the widest choice of finish, go Sparco. If you want a big wheel pulled close, the Sparco 368 is the only 380mm semi we sell.

Common questions
Why do you only stock seven semi dish wheels?
Because the manufacturers make very few. Most jump from a lightly dished road wheel straight to a deep one. Sparco are the only brand that really populate the middle, with four of the seven.
Is a 70mm OMP the same as a 70mm MOMO?
Yes, in the only way that matters. Both put the rim 70mm forward of the mounting face. MOMO call theirs deep and OMP call theirs mid-depth, which is why they sit in different guides on this site, but your hands end up in the same place.
Can I run a semi dish with a quick release?
We would not. The quick release adds about 60mm by itself, so a 65mm wheel puts you around 125mm from the boss face, which is deeper than any wheel we sell. Buy flat if a quick release is going on.
What is the cheapest semi dish wheel you sell?
The OMP RS at £143.50, which is 350mm suede with a 72mm dish. The Sparco 345 at £152 is the next one up and is 63mm.
Is there anything between 43mm and 63mm?
Not that we stock, and not that we have found. There is a real gap in the market between the top of the shallow band and the bottom of the semi band, so if you have measured and you need 50mm, the honest answer is to buy flat and add a spacer.
Which semi dish wheel is best for a car with no power steering?
The Sparco 368, because it is 380mm. The bigger rim gives you the leverage and the 65mm dish brings it back to your hands. It is the only 380mm semi we sell.
