The largest track day and motorsport helmets for bigger heads
Helmet buying guide · checked 1 October 2026
The largest size we currently list is 67–68 cm in selected Bell GT6 helmets. The Bell GT6 Pro is the first one we would look at if you have run out of room in the usual XL and XXL sizes. Bell confirms that 4XL size for this model, and both white and matt black are selectable on our listing.
But that does not make it the right helmet for every driver with a bigger head. Your head shape, the type of car and the approval your event requires still decide what you can wear. An open-face helmet may fit beautifully and still be wrong for your convertible.
We checked the size options across our helmet catalogue and pulled out the largest choices from Bell, Arai, Stilo, Schuberth, Sparco and OMP. There are more than five worth discussing. We have also separated the catalogue entries that need a sizing check before we would recommend them.

Largest sizes at a glance
This is a guide to helmets listed by GSM Performance, not a claim to cover every helmet made worldwide. The figures below are the largest selectable retail sizes on the linked products. They are head-circumference sizes, not measurements of the shell or a promise of fit.

Checked against live product variations on 1 October 2026. These options were enabled for ordering when checked; that does not mean every size is sitting in the showroom or ready for immediate dispatch. Ask us to confirm your size and lead time before booking a fitting or relying on delivery for an event.
Sparco Club X1, OMP GP-R and Bell Mag listings contain larger size labels that need clarification. They are explained below rather than presented as confirmed large-head recommendations.
Bell: the largest full-face options, at 67–68 cm
If you measure 67 or 68 cm, start here. The GT6 Pro has a 67–68 cm option on our site, matching Bell’s own model specification. It is a full-face helmet with a composite shell, a broad visor opening and HANS posts. Our listed version carries FIA 8859-2024.
The GT6 Pro is £727.20 including VAT in that largest size, in either white or matt black at the time of writing. It is the lowest-priced model among the five GT6 listings below that share the 67–68 cm option. If you do not need rally communications or a carbon shell, that is where we would begin the fitting.
Those extras give you more versions to consider, but they do not make the top size bigger:
| GSM listing | Largest selectable size | Why look at it? |
|---|---|---|
| GT6 Pro | 67–68 cm | Composite full-face starting point |
| GT6 Rally | 67–68 cm | Rally version with communications |
| GT6 Carbon | 67–68 cm | Carbon-shell alternative |
| GT6 RD Carbon | 67–68 cm | Carbon model with factory radio equipment |
| GT6 Carbon Rally | 67–68 cm | Carbon rally specification |
The rally variants have different eyeport and peak equipment from the GT6 Pro shown here; check the visor specification your event needs. Check the communications specification against your intercom before paying for a rally model. Likewise, do not carry the GT6 Pro’s size range across to every Bell: our GT6 Sport and Le Mans listings stop at 61+. “61+” is a particular size, not shorthand for any head larger than 61 cm.
Model years matter. Bell’s current GT6 Pro page describes a newer Snell SA2025 version; our linked 2025 listing currently states SA2020 alongside FIA 8859-2024. Confirm the label on the helmet being supplied if your event specifies a particular Snell year.

Arai: GP-Jet 3 for the largest open-face option
The Arai GP-Jet 3 is the open-face model to put on the shortlist. Our largest selectable option is XXXL, labelled 65–66 cm, at £494.40 including VAT when checked. The listing specifies FIA 8859-2015 and Snell SA2020.
Arai makes the GP-J3 in XXXL, and its sizing guidance places XXXL at 65–66 cm. That is a starting point for a fitting, not a reason to skip one. Regional charts and homologation paperwork can describe sizes differently, so have us confirm the supplied helmet’s size label and fit if you are right at the upper limit.
The GP-Jet 3 has a sun peak and an open front. It is worth trying if your event permits an open-face helmet and a full-face chin bar feels restrictive. It does not come with HANS posts on our listing; tell us if you need an FHR setup so the correct approved hardware can be included.
Need an Arai with a chin bar? Our GP-6S and GP-5W listings reach XL, labelled 61–62 cm, not the GP-Jet 3’s XXXL. They also currently state Snell SA2015, so check the event rules and supplied approval label before choosing one. Do not assume that buying the same brand gives you the same top size in both styles.

Stilo: 64 cm in full-face and open-face helmets
Stilo is useful if you are around 63–64 cm and want to compare both styles. The ST6 GTN Composite full-face helmet and Venti4 Trophy Jet open-face helmet each have a XXXL / 64 cm option on our site.
The ST6 GTN Composite is £800.40 including VAT at 64 cm when checked, with HANS posts listed as included. It carries FIA 8859-2024. Stilo’s ST5/ST6 sizing document puts 3XL at above 63 cm through 64 cm, which is a useful check against the size selector.
The Venti4 Trophy Jet starts at £378 including VAT at 64 cm with the “HANS posts not included” option selected. With posts selected it is £420 including VAT. Both white and titanium were enabled in that size. The listing specifies FIA 8859-2024 and Snell SA2025.
That price difference is a good example of why we check the actual variation. “HANS compatible” and “posts fitted in the price” do not always mean the same thing. If you need rally communications, the Venti4 Trophy Plus Rally also lists 64 cm, but confirm compatibility with your intercom.

Schuberth: SP1 Carbon, up to 63 cm
The Schuberth SP1 Carbon is the largest Schuberth helmet currently listed in our catalogue, at XXL / 63 cm. Schuberth’s own SP1 fitment guide confirms that size. Our listing specifies a carbon shell, FIA 8859-2015 and Snell SA2020.
At the time of checking, the 63 cm variation was £1,674.76 including VAT without HANS posts, or £1,726.76 with posts selected. Check that selector even though “HANS” appears in the product title.
This is a premium option for a head that fits its 63 cm size. The extra money does not buy more room than the 64 cm Stilo or the larger Bell. If the Schuberth shape suits you better, that can still make it the better choice; if it is too small, a carbon shell does not solve the problem.

Sparco: separate the FIA helmets from the budget range
For an FIA-approved Sparco, the straightforward large-size choices are the Stealth RF full-face helmet and the Flux RJ open-face helmet. Both go to XXL / 62 cm on our listings, both carry FIA 8859-2024 and both list HANS posts as included.
The Stealth RF was £404.40 including VAT and the Flux RJ £309.60 including VAT in XXL when checked. Choose between them on fit and the type of helmet your event allows. A 62 cm ceiling is still a 62 cm ceiling, however attractive the price.

What about a cheaper track-day helmet?
The Sparco X-Pro is full face and the J-Pro is open face. Both are listed to XXL / 62 cm on our standard-colour product pages, with ECE 22.06 approval rather than FIA car-racing approval. Neither lists HANS posts as included.
These are worth considering when your organiser accepts the exact helmet and you do not need an FIA competition specification. Ask the organiser first, particularly for an open-top car. An ECE label is not a substitute for whichever FIA or Snell standard your race regulations require.
Some Gulf and Martini X-Pro listings show XXL as 62–63 cm, while the standard X-Pro listing says 62 cm. We would confirm the manufacturer’s chart for the exact part number before promising that a different livery gives you extra room. The Club X1’s even larger listed size needs the same care; see the checks below.

OMP: J-Rally reaches 61–62 cm; check GP-R sizing
The OMP J-Rally gives you an open-face FIA 8859-2024 option in XL / 61–62 cm. That agrees with OMP’s model-specific chart. HANS posts are listed as included, and the XL variation was £336 including VAT when checked.
The full-face GP-R needs a check before it belongs in a “largest helmets” recommendation. Our selector currently labels XL as 62–63 cm, but OMP’s chart gives GP-R XL as 61–61+. We are not treating it as a confirmed 63 cm helmet. If you measure 63 cm and need full face, the Stilo, Schuberth or a suitable Bell size is a more useful starting point while the GP-R discrepancy is resolved.
The GP-R and GP-R K are different approvals, too. The K is the karting model; it should not be substituted for the car-racing GP-R merely because the names look similar.

Larger labels that need confirmation before ordering
A size option on a website is not enough on its own when it conflicts with the model information. These are the entries we have kept out of the main recommendations:
| Listing | What the selector says | What needs checking |
|---|---|---|
| Sparco Club X1 Carbon | XXL / 64–65 cm | We have not confirmed that range against a current Sparco specification for this exact part. Do not order it as a guaranteed 65 cm solution. |
| OMP GP-R | XL / 62–63 cm | OMP’s own GP-R chart says XL / 61–61+. Confirm the correct supplied size. |
| Bell Mag / Mag Rally | XXXL / 65–66 cm | Our selectors extend beyond the S–XL range shown on Bell’s current Mag model information. Confirm the exact model and size with us. |
The Club X1’s “Carbon” name is not evidence that it has a woven carbon racing shell, either. It is listed as a carbon-effect composite helmet with ECE approval. We would not use it as an FIA alternative or recommend its largest size without clarification.
If one of these is the helmet you want, give Garreth or Cameron your measurement and the model name. We can check the exact part before you spend money on a size that may not be available as described.
Track days, FIA racing and karting need different checks
Start with your organiser’s rules. For example, MSV Trackdays requires a full-face helmet with a visor in an open-top or convertible vehicle. It also requires a correctly fitted, securely fastened helmet meeting its safety requirements. Do not assume that every organiser accepts the same equipment.
For competition, check the exact FIA or Snell standard and any year restrictions in the regulations for your discipline and event. FIA 8859-2015, FIA 8859-2024 and FIA 8860-2018 are different specifications. An FIA label is not blanket permission to use a helmet at every meeting, and a more expensive helmet is not necessarily available in a larger size.
Karting has its own standards. The Stilo ST6 KRT Composite is a separate 64 cm option for adult karting, listed with FIA 8878-2024 and Snell K2025. That is not the same certification as FIA 8859 for car helmets. Check your kart event’s rules rather than choosing on the letters “FIA” alone.
If an FHR is required, check the helmet approval, approved posts, device and the rest of your restraint setup together. Never drill a shell or improvise an anchorage to make a helmet compatible.
Measure first, then check the fit
A bigger head is not always a rounder head. Two drivers can measure 64 cm and need different helmet shapes. If a helmet presses hard on your forehead but has room at the sides, going up another size may leave it loose without solving that pressure point.
- Use a soft tape. Run it roughly an inch above your eyebrows and around the widest part at the back. Keep it level, repeat the measurement and use the largest reading. This follows Bell’s measuring guidance.
- Compare the exact model chart. Write down the centimetres rather than saying you are “normally an XXL”. Do not add spare room automatically.
- Try it with what you wear. Bring your balaclava and glasses if you use them. Fasten the chin strap correctly and follow the manufacturer’s fit checks.
- Check pressure and stability. You want firm, even contact, without painful pressure points. A helmet that moves independently of your head, slips over your eyes or can roll off with the strap secured needs reassessing.
- Check it in the car. Sit in your normal driving position and check roof clearance, forward vision and head movement. Do this before the track day, especially in a low coupe or a car with a cage.
Do not cut, sand or compress the impact liner to gain space. Where a manufacturer offers approved comfort-pad options, have a competent fitter check them; thinner padding is not a way to turn any shell into the next size up.
Your head measurement, the helmet you have tried already, where it feels tight, your car and the events you plan to enter. Call first so we can confirm which large sizes are available to try. Garreth or Cameron can then help you compare a few sensible options.
Common questions
What is the largest helmet available from GSM Performance?
The largest size currently listed is 67–68 cm in selected Bell GT6 models, including the GT6 Pro. Bell confirms that model in 4XL / 67–68 cm. Availability in your colour and the supplied approval label should be confirmed before an event.
Which open-face helmet should I look at for a 65–66 cm head?
The Arai GP-Jet 3 is listed in XXXL / 65–66 cm and is the first open-face model on this shortlist to ask us about. Confirm the supplied size and try it on. Bell Mag listings also show that range on our site, but we have excluded those size claims pending clarification against Bell’s model information.
Is XXXL the same size in every brand?
No. Our Stilo XXXL options here are labelled 64 cm, while the Arai GP-Jet 3 XXXL is labelled 65–66 cm. Compare the exact model’s centimetre range and fit, not just the letter.
What if I measure more than 68 cm?
We did not find a larger selectable size in the catalogue we checked. Contact us before ordering anything; do not force a too-small helmet on or modify the protective liner. A supplier check and a fitting are needed before we can recommend a solution.
Can I wear an open-face helmet in a convertible on a track day?
Check your organiser. MSV Trackdays specifies a full-face helmet with a visor for open-top and convertible vehicles. An open-face helmet fitting well does not override that rule.
Do all these prices include HANS posts?
No. Bell GT6 Pro, Stilo ST6 GTN, Sparco Stealth RF, Sparco Flux RJ and OMP J-Rally list posts as included. The Venti4 Trophy Jet and Schuberth SP1 have a separate posts option, and our Arai GP-Jet 3 listing excludes them. Select the correct configuration and check FHR compatibility.
Need a larger helmet? Start with your measurement.
If you need 67–68 cm, ask us about the Bell GT6 Pro. For a large open-face helmet, ask about the Arai GP-Jet 3. At 63–64 cm, there are useful Stilo and Schuberth options to compare. Tell us what you drive and where you are going to use it, and we will help narrow the choice before you order.
How we checked this guide
Catalogue and variation check: 1 October 2026. We reviewed the helmet products and their enabled size variations, excluding accessories and helmet/FHR bundles from the brand comparison. Largest-size variations were checked individually, including colour and HANS-post options. Prices quoted in the text include UK VAT and are a dated snapshot; the product pages show current pricing and options.
Manufacturer and organiser references: Bell GT6 Pro, Bell Mag, Arai GP-J3 model range, Arai Motorsport size guide, Stilo ST5/ST6 sizing, Schuberth SP1 fitment guide, OMP sizing, FIA helmet user guidance and MSV Trackdays requirements. Where a catalogue size could not be reconciled with model information, we have said so instead of treating it as a confirmed fit recommendation.
