The MOMO Prototipo Steering Wheel Arrives For 2022
Steering wheel news, December 2021
The MOMO Prototipo has joined our steering wheel range in a new 370mm size for 2022. It is the classic three spoke Prototipo, with a black leather rim and the holes drilled along each spoke, just a little larger than the 350mm version we already sell.
Both sizes come with black or silver spokes. We have also paired the new wheel with a B-G Racing quick release at the checkout, and it needs a boss kit for your car, so this post covers all three parts.
- New for 2022: the MOMO Prototipo in a 370mm diameter
- The existing Prototipo is 350mm; both come with black or silver spokes
- Shallow 37mm dish, black leather rim with white stitching
- Six bolt, 70mm PCD fitting, so it takes MOMO, OMP and Sparco style bosses
- Offered with a B-G Racing universal quick release at the checkout

What the Prototipo is
The Prototipo is one of MOMO’s classic designs: three flat aluminium spokes with a line of holes down each one, the heritage MOMO logo, and a black leather rim with white stitching. It is a shallow dish wheel, 37mm deep, so it sits close to the column the way the original fitment wheels on older cars do.
That look is why it suits classic and retro cars so well, although it works in plenty of modern ones too. It is a road wheel and comes with a horn push.
The new wheel is 370mm across, against 350mm for the Prototipo we already stock. That extra 20mm makes a difference in cars without power steering, where a larger wheel gives more leverage at parking speeds.
Both sizes come with a choice of black or silver spokes. The rim is the same black leather either way, so the choice is purely about the look you want in the car.

The B-G Racing quick release
We recommend the B-G Racing universal quick release with the Prototipo, and we have added it as an option at the checkout so you can order both together. It is made from lightweight aluminium and hard wearing steel, and it is built for road cars.
A push pin locks the wheel in place, and taking the wheel off makes getting in and out of the car much easier. The quick release takes both 6 x 70mm and 6 x 74mm wheels and brings the wheel roughly 50mm closer to the driver, which is worth knowing before you order.
You need a boss kit as well
Every aftermarket wheel needs a boss kit, the adaptor that fits your car’s steering column on one side and the wheel on the other. The Prototipo uses the common six bolt, 70mm PCD pattern, so it works with most boss kits, including those from MOMO, OMP and Sparco.
Boss kits are specific to the car, and we have hundreds of them in our boss kit range. Garreth’s advice is to send us the make, model and year before you order and let us match the boss kit, because two versions of the same car can take different ones. Our shallow dish steering wheel guide compares the Prototipo with the other shallow wheels.
