What is on this page
What the SP V2 is
The SP V2 is the latest evolution of Alpinestars’ entry level race boot. The upper is premium suede, which gives a good fit and plenty of comfort, and the Achilles area is a soft knitted design, so the back of the boot does not dig in when your foot is on the pedals.
Double layer panels on the sides improve protection for the foot, and the footbed has a twin layer structure. Underneath there is a light, ultra-thin rubber sole that gives a lot of feel and grip on the pedals. It laces up in the traditional way.
Alpinestars lists the SP V2 with an SFI 3.3/5 homologation label on the tongue. As with any boot, check the label against what your championship asks for before you race in it.
Why race boots matter
Race boots are compulsory in most motorsport events. Their flame retardant lining protects your feet if there is a fire, and their thin, grippy soles are made for working the pedals, which is something ordinary trainers do badly.
A boot that fits closely also stops your foot moving about on the pedal. Garreth’s advice is to try boots on in the socks you will race in, and if you cannot get to the showroom, tell us your usual size and we will help you choose.
Other entry level boots we recommend
The SP V2 sits in our entry level group of race boots, alongside the entry models from Sparco and OMP. All of them are aimed at drivers buying their first proper boots, and the differences come down to fit, sole and materials.
If you are building a full kit for the first time, our guide to the kit you need for your first track day goes through the rest.
