BC Racing ZR Series Coilovers Explained

ZR sits at the top of the BC Racing range. Three way adjustable, which means independent control over compression, high speed compression and rebound rather than the single rebound dial you get on BR, and built for competition use. It is the range we point customers to when the car is already set up for track days or club motorsport and the standard adjustment on BR or RM is not going to be enough.

It is also the shortest series we sell. 42 listings against BR’s full spread of over 1,400, and it only reaches 8 makes.

Who ends up on ZR

Every make that carries ZR is a dedicated performance platform. BMW covers the M3 through the E36, E46, E90/E92 and F80/F82 generations. Subaru runs from the classic GC-chassis Impreza WRX and STI through to the current VB, plus the BRZ. Honda carries the Civic Type R, Integra/RSX and the earlier EP and EM Civics. Mitsubishi’s full Evo lineage is in there too, alongside Nissan’s S13 through S15 Silvia, Toyota’s 86 and GR86, and single listings for the Scion FR-S and Mazda RX-7.

Every one of those is a car built for track days or club motorsport. If yours is not on that list, BR or RM is the range to look at instead.

Where ZR turns up across the range

Only 8 makes carry ZR, and the table below is the complete list. BMW carries the most at 13, all through the 3 Series and M3 chassis codes, then Subaru at 10, Honda at 8, Mitsubishi’s Evo range at 4, Nissan’s Silvia chassis at 3, Toyota’s 86/GR86 pairing at 2, and single listings for Scion and Mazda.

A cross-section of what ZR covers

The kits below span the range: BMW’s E46 and F80/F82 M3, Subaru’s BRZ and WRX/STI, Honda’s Civic Type R and Integra/RSX, Mitsubishi’s Evo X, Nissan’s S15 Silvia, Toyota’s GR86, plus the Scion FR-S and Mazda RX-7 fitments. Almost every one of these also carries BR, ER, HM, RM and ZX against the same fitment, so choosing ZR usually comes down to how much adjustability you want on a fitment you would already be ordering.

Final thoughts

ZR is the range to ask about once you know the car is staying on track or heading that way, and only 8 makes need to have that conversation with us. BMW carries the deepest ZR range on our site, our BMW guide covers that range in full, and our BC Racing series guide covers where ZR sits against BR, RM, ER, ZX and HM.
