Alpinestars Supertech race boots: the 2025 launch

The Alpinestars Supertech race boot joined our range for the 2025 season with a fully knitted upper. A carbon heel cup and a 3D printed midsole give it a different construction from the leather and suede boots many drivers already know. This January 2025 launch looks at those details and the checks to make when trying a pair.

A knitted aramid upper

Alpinestars uses a fire-retardant blend of aramid fibres for the knitted upper. Stretch zones at the tongue and ankle collar help it follow the foot, while an overlay adds support and durability. The construction also includes a rear pull tab and a seamless Achilles area.

Garreth's top tip is to check toe room and how the upper settles over your instep when trying the knitted boot, especially if you are used to a leather pair.

What the carbon heel cup and printed midsole do

The thermoformed carbon fibre heel cup supports the heel. Underfoot, the 3D printed midsole varies its cushioning: softer beneath the heel bone and firmer towards the edges. Memory padding around the heel is intended to reduce transmitted vibration.

An ultra-thin rubber outsole, derived from Alpinestars' Formula 1 footwear, aims to preserve pedal feel. Its asymmetric tread is water repellent and oil resistant. Flat laces reduce bulk across the instep. These are the manufacturer's design features; comfort over a long stint still depends on getting the size and shape right for your foot.

Approvals, colourways and the leather alternative

The Supertech carries FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3 certification. Check the marking on the pair you receive against the rules for your event, alongside the separate approvals on your suit, gloves and other required racewear.

The three launch colourways were black, grey/black/yellow and white/red/black. Our Supertech listing uses UK size options from 6 to 12; check the selected variant and the manufacturer's conversion before ordering. Sizes carrying a UK, EU or US label should be compared using the appropriate chart.

The Tech 1-Z V3 FIA boot offers a useful construction comparison. Alpinestars describes its leather upper and dual closure on the manufacturer's FIA model page. Our guide to choosing FIA race boots covers the approval and pedal-feel questions in more detail.

Trying the boots with your racewear

Cameron's fitting view starts with the socks you intend to race in. Lace both boots evenly, settle the heels and flex your ankles into a driving position. Check for pressure across the toes and instep, then check that your heels stay seated as you lift your feet.

If you are between sizes, tell us your measured foot length, usual shoe size and the make and size of your current race boots, or bring the old pair when visiting so we can compare the fit directly.

Check ankle movement with your suit cuffs in place and consider the space around the pedals in your car. A slim sole helps you feel the pedal, but the boot still has to clear neighbouring pedals through the movements you use.

Current products and further reading

Compare the boots below, or consider the Tech 1-ZX V4 gloves as a companion item for your racewear.

For the maker's construction and certification details, see the Alpinestars Supertech specification. Published later, our Hypertech V3 suit, Supertech boots and gloves guide looks at wearing the pieces together. That later reading is separate from this January 2025 launch.

Supertech race boot questions

These are the Supertech auto racing boots, model code 2710125, with FIA 8856-2018 and SFI 3.3 certification; check the exact model when comparing products with similar names.

The upper uses a knitted fire-retardant aramid blend, with stretch at the tongue and ankle collar.

The launch colours were black, grey/black/yellow and white/red/black; check the live listing for your chosen colour and size combination.

Use the size conversion for this model and try the boots with your race socks. If you are unsure, send your foot measurement and current boot details before ordering; a shoe size alone does not describe width or instep fit.

Ask us about Supertech sizing

Tell Garreth or Cameron which boots you wear now and where the fit feels tight or loose when you contact us for sizing help or call 0115 647 8650.
