MOMO Steering Wheels At Autosport International 2023
Show report, January 2023
MOMO had a great display at Autosport International 2023, held at the NEC in Birmingham from 12 to 15 January. The stand showed a spread of their most popular wheels, each with a small sign giving the model, finish and size, which made it an easy stand to browse.
A couple of wheels caught our eye in particular: the Prototipo 6C, with carbon fibre on the spokes, and the Indy Heritage wheels, which really capture the classic look.

The MOMO stand
MOMO split the stand in two: a red wall of Prototipo and Heritage wheels, and black towers holding modern leather and suede wheels such as the Montecarlo and the Model 07 and 08.
Each wheel had its own label with the model name, the finish and the diameter, which is exactly what a show stand needs when people are comparing wheels side by side.

The wheels that caught our eye
The Prototipo 6C takes the classic Prototipo shape, a 350mm leather wheel with a shallow dish, and covers the centre spokes in carbon fibre. It looked very smart on the stand.
The Indy Heritage wheels stood out for the opposite reason. They are pure classic: glossy mahogany rims, three spokes and the old MOMO logo on the horn push.

The MOMO Indy Heritage is a 350mm wheel with a 37mm shallow dish and a 33mm rim in glossy mahogany. The MOMO Super Grand Prix is its close relation: also 350mm with a 37mm dish, but with a natural and painted mahogany rim of 27 by 26mm, polished chrome spokes and a semi-matt finish.

The leather wheels
For a modern car, two MOMO leather wheels from the stand are worth a look. The Prototipo Black Edition is a 350mm shallow dish wheel in Italian leather, with black cut-out aluminium spokes laser etched with its name and a matt and gloss black MOMO arrow horn button. It is a classic looking wheel with a modern finish, ideal for keeping a car’s character while freshening up the interior.
The Montecarlo is lighter and simpler: a leather wheel in 320mm, 350mm or, new for 2023, 380mm, with a 40mm dish and an oval 28 by 32mm grip. The 320mm version weighs 1.13kg.
MOMO in our showroom
If the show whetted your appetite, we have four MOMO wheels on display in the showroom to see and hold, including the Prototipo Black Edition, one of our favourites because the etched detail looks so good up close. Garreth’s advice is to hold a wheel before choosing, since rim thickness is personal.
Our guide to shallow dish steering wheels explains what a 37 to 39mm dish does to the reach.
