Stilo ST5 FN Carbon And Stand21 HANS: The Carbon Version Of Our Open Car Package
Helmet package, September 2021
The last of this run of helmet packages is the carbon version of the ST5 FN we put together last week. Same full visor, same layout, in an autoclaved carbon and Kevlar shell, paired with a Stand21 Club Series 3.
As with the whole series, the helmet and HANS were fitted together on the showroom mannequin, and these are the photos of that pair.
- Stilo ST5 FN Carbon helmet with a Stand21 Club Series 3 HANS
- Helmet approved to FIA 8859-2015 and Snell SA2020
- Autoclaved carbon and Kevlar shell
- Clear full visor as standard, short sunshade optional
- No side ports or electronics

What is in the package
A Stilo ST5 FN Carbon helmet and a Stand21 Club Series 3 HANS device, with the package discount applied when you add both from the package link.
Fitted and checked on the mannequin like the rest, with the tethers on the ST5’s quick release couplings.
The Stilo ST5 FN Carbon
What you pay the extra for is the shell. It is carbon and Kevlar, cured in an autoclave, with an expanded polystyrene liner, and the result is a lighter helmet than the composite. It is approved to FIA 8859-2015 and Snell SA2020.
Everything else follows the FN you saw last week: a clear full visor as standard with a short sunshade as an option, no side ports and no electronics, and the adjustable earmuffs.
Up close, the carbon weave is the giveaway, and it is a lovely thing to look at on the shelf.
Garreth's honest take: carbon saves weight, and both versions carry the same FIA approval. Your neck will thank you for it over a long race, and that is the case for spending the money.

The Stand21 Club Series 3 HANS
The other half of the package is the Stand21 Club Series 3, approved to FIA 8858-2010. It is set at 20 degrees, the angle for an upright seat in a saloon, GT or rally car, and it is injection moulded from a composite, which keeps it to around 750 g with its pads and tethers.
The Club Series 3 is not the lightest head restraint made, but with the carbon ST5 it gives you a light helmet and an approved restraint without jumping to carbon prices on both.
If you are not sure of the angle or size for your seat, our guide to which HANS device you need goes through it.

Who this package suits
Open car drivers who want the lighter carbon shell, and anyone doing long races where helmet weight adds up. If the budget is tighter, the composite ST5 FN gives you the same approvals and layout.
Our guides to FIA and Snell helmet standards and measuring for a helmet are worth reading first.
