The Complete B-G and MOMO Volkswagen Steering Wheel Hub Guide
MK8017R turns up again here, the same MOMO hub that covers the Audi A1, A3, A4 and TT, eight Skoda models and several Seats, and it fits the Golf MK4 through MK6, the Bora, Beetle and Eos as well. If you have already read our Audi guide, this is the same VAG group platform story from the Volkswagen side.
This guide covers 59 boss kits across Volkswagen. I am Cameron, and I look after the steering wheel side of things at GSM Performance.
Which boss kit fits your car
An aftermarket wheel will not bolt onto a Volkswagen column on its own. The boss kit bridges the two, machined to match the spline count and column depth of your specific model and year. The table below covers everything from the classic Beetle through to the current range.

The green row shares a part code with Audi, Seat and Skoda models not listed in this guide.
The entire MOMO range for this make, 40 listings, uses an older SKU format with the model name built into the part code rather than a clean number. There is no separate modern MOMO Volkswagen range replacing them, these are the current, in-stock parts, and several airbag/non-airbag pairs exist for the same model and year, so check your listing carefully.
Fitting a steering wheel hub
So how does a Sparco wheel end up on a B-G hub? Because nearly every aftermarket motorsport wheel is drilled to the same bolt pattern, six bolts on a 70mm circle, written as 6 x 70mm PCD. MOMO, Sparco, OMP and the Mountney M-Range all use it. The hub is chosen by the car, the wheel is chosen by you, and the two brands never have to match.
MOMO, Sparco, OMP, Simoni Racing and the Mountney M-Range.
Nardi, Personal and Raid.
Fitting it, in order
- 1Hub onto the column
- 2Wheel onto the hub
- 3Horn wire onto the tab
- 4Retaining ring holds the horn button
How each brand drills its hubs
The B-G Racing hubs
Nine B-G hubs, all solid non-collapsible and dual drilled for 6 x 70mm and 6 x 74mm. B-G is a smaller presence here than MOMO, which covers the bulk of the classic and modern Volkswagen range.
The MOMO and OMP hubs
Fifty hubs, mostly MOMO in the older listing format described above, spanning the Beetle, the classic 1200/1300/1302/1303, every Golf generation from MK1 to MK6, the Passat, Polo, Scirocco, Corrado and Transporter. OMP list nine solid non-collapsible hubs across the modern range. MK8017R, covering the Golf MK4 through MK6, Bora, Beetle and Eos, also fits the Audi A1, A3, A4 and TT.

The buttons below link to the current range from each brand filtered by make, so they stay accurate as stock changes. If your car is not listed or you are unsure which part fits, drop a note with the model and year and we will confirm before you spend anything.

A quick release sits between the hub and the wheel and lets you pull the wheel off the column in one action. On a track-prepared Golf or Beetle that is useful for access and security. On a stripped interior it makes getting over the sill easier when the wheel is not fighting you.
All four take the same 6 x 70mm pattern as the boss kits on this page, so whichever hub you choose will work with any of these.

Pair your boss kit with a high performance steering wheel
Once the hub is sorted the wheel is your choice. The classic Beetle and early Golf suit a wood rim or plain suede finish, while the modern Golf and Polo take well to a deeper dish. These are the ones I would look at first.

Every wheel we sell is drilled 6 x 70mm, so any of them will bolt to any of the hubs above. The real decision is diameter and dish, which changes how heavy the steering feels and how close the rim sits to your chest.
Final thoughts
Volkswagen is the other half of the VAG group crossover we already covered from the Audi side. MK8017R is the part to remember if you are cross-shopping between the two guides, or checking a Seat or Skoda against the same code.
If you are not sure which part fits, or the model on your car is not on the list, drop us a line with the registration. I will confirm the right kit before you order anything.
