What the OMP Novec extinguisher is
It is a hand held extinguisher with 2kg of 3M Novec 1230 in a stainless steel bottle. Novec is a clean agent: it puts the fire out and then evaporates, so it does not leave the corrosive mess a dry powder extinguisher does. In a car full of wiring and instruments, that matters.
It is 360mm long and 110mm in diameter, and it weighs 3.15kg in total. That compact size is why it suits smaller cars, where there is not much room to mount a bottle. It is approved by the FIA and Motorsport UK for national and international rally use, and it is EN3 homologated.
The brackets and quick release clamps come in the box. The brackets bolt to the car, and the clamps hold the bottle in place but let you pull it free quickly when you need it.
Garreth's advice is to mount it where the driver and co driver can both reach it while belted in, and to check your regulations before you fit it, because the rules on where and how it is mounted vary by series.

The other OMP hand held extinguishers
OMP also make dry powder hand held extinguishers. The 4kg version has a steel bottle, stainless steel brackets, quick release straps and a flexible hose to direct the powder, and suits the paddock or workshop. The 2kg version has an alloy bottle with a bracket and quick release steel straps, and is made for a workshop or service vehicle.
Dry powder works well, but it gets everywhere, so for inside a competition car a clean agent like Novec is the neater choice. Our guide to hand held fire extinguishers compares the types.
Plumbed in systems
Many race and rally series ask for a plumbed in system as well as, or in place of, a hand held bottle. OMP make both mechanical systems, fired by a pull cable, and electrical systems, fired by a button. They come as kits with the bottle, pipework, nozzles and brackets, with nozzles aimed at the engine bay and the cockpit.
If you are not sure which type your car needs, our guide to mechanical and electrical extinguishers explains the difference.
