Three Pairs of OMP Karting Gloves: The KS-X and KS-2 Art
Kartwear news, February 2025
Three pairs of OMP kart gloves came through the showroom this week on their way out to customers, so we took the chance to photograph them before they were checked and packed. Two were the OMP KS-X, one pair in white and one in fluorescent yellow. The third was the KS-2 Art in anthracite, yellow and black.
They make a useful pair to compare. The KS-X is homologated to FIA 8877-2022, the new karting clothing standard, while the KS-2 Art is a non-FIA glove with fully printed graphics at a lower price.

The OMP KS-X
The KS-X is OMP's approved kart glove, homologated to FIA 8877-2022. Its palm uses a raised silicone dimple pattern, the same grip design OMP uses on its One Evo X race gloves, which holds better than a flat print when the wheel is damp. The wrist has an elasticated closure.
It comes in black, white and fluorescent yellow, in sizes XS to XL. A kart glove should fit snugly with no spare material in the palm, because loose fabric moves on the wheel and takes away feel.

The OMP KS-2 Art
The KS-2 Art is about looks and value. The graphics are fully printed, and the anthracite, yellow and black version is one of several colourways, alongside white, blue, red, orange and yellow, each with black.
It has pre-curved fingers so the material does not bunch, external seams to avoid rubbing, silicone print on the palm and fingers, and a slash-cut elastic cuff. It has no FIA approval, so it is a glove for practice, leisure karting and classes that do not ask for homologated kit. Sizes run from XXS to XL.

What FIA 8877-2022 means for kart gloves
FIA 8877-2022 is the FIA’s standard for protective clothing for karting. It covers suits, and it brings gloves and boots into homologation too. Products are tested for abrasion, tearing and seam strength, and for resistance to contact heat, and approved items carry a hologram label. From January 2025 it is required for karting competitions on the FIA international calendar.
Garreth’s advice is to check your own championship’s rules before you buy. National and club series set their own clothing requirements, and if yours asks for approved gloves, the KS-X is the one to go for. Our guide to karting gloves for track days and racing compares more options.
